Countdown to Kickoff: #47 – Aaron Casey

Aaron Casey

Height: 6’3’’

Weight: 215 pounds

Hometown: Douglasville, GA (Alexander H.S.)

Year: Freshman

Position: Linebacker

Aaron Casey is another young linebacker who could find his way on to the field in 2018 for the Hoosiers. The 6’3” high school safety has the frame to add the weight needed to last in the middle of a Big Ten defense. During his senior season at Alexander Casey made 120 tackles, picked off five passes, and defensed 10 total passes. He had 21 total offers including ones from Iowa State, Rutgers and West Virginia of the Power Five before choosing IU back in June.

When we were able to talk with Casey earlier this summer, the freshman said in order to get on the field this fall he needs to “get in the weight room, get on team runs and excel strength-wise and speed-wise for me to be able to compete with the other guys who already had that.”

The IU linebacking corps got a boost with the return of Dameon Willis over the summer. Casey will have to compete against youngster Mo Burnam, Cam Jones as well as upper classmen Mike McGinnis and Raekwon Jones to find his niche on the defense. However, Tom Allen has said he wants to increase the defensive rotation after playing key guys too many plays in 2017.
