Countdown to Kickoff: #40 – Reakwon Jones
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 232 pounds
Hometown: Lynn Haven, FL (A. Crawford Mosely)
Class/Position: RS Junior/Linebacker
We hit the 40 days until IUFB kicks off against FIU as Big Ten Media Days begin in Chicago, so the football season is right around the bend. Today we will look at one of the more important pieces for the Indiana defense, Reakwon Jones. By now everyone knows that the Hoosiers will be replacing Tegray Scales and Chris Covington in the middle of the defense. One of those replacements could be redshirt junior Jones.
Jones came to IU from Lynn Haven, Florida in 2015 and redshirted his first season on campus. Jones has played in 21 games over his redshirt freshman and sophomore seasons but has not put up the production that will be expected from him in 2018 posting nine total tackles.
Jones’s role will expand as the Hoosiers will have to replace Tegray Scales at the stinger position and he was the leading candidate coming out of spring practice. There were high expectations for Jones coming out of high school and Jones is ready to live up to them.
“I’m ready to prove that I can be one of the next big linebackers in the Big 10. I’m trying to improve daily and prove to the Big 10 that I can play and run this defense from the Stinger position. I feel like I just need to continue to get better and be consistent in my game.” Jones said in a recent article from the Panama City News Herald.
