Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 37 Days (Ahrod Lloyd)
The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is over halfway complete. Thirty-seven days remain until the Hoosiers kickoff the 2018 season on the road against Florida International University. Today we will highlight running back Ahrod Lloyd.
Ahrod Lloyd (Redshirt Freshman)
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 195 Pounds
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
Position: Running Back
In the past few seasons the Indiana offensive backfield has seen contributions from walk-on running backs such as Alex Rodriguez and Andrew Wilson. This year, a candidate to fill that role comes in Ahrod Lloyd. After injuries to some of IU’s headliners at tailback during the spring, Lloyd took full advantage of his opportunity to earn playing time. At the completion of spring ball, Coach Allen went out of his way to mention how much he had impressed. "I'm going to keep mentioning Lloyd," Allen said. "I know he's a walk-on that no one really knew much about, but you saw him making plays. That young man is going to help this program because he's quick, he's tough, he's strong, and he's fast. To me, that's pretty good qualities to have and he cares a whole bunch."
Lloyd joined the Hoosier program as a walk-on last season after having attended Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis. He earned All-State honors and broke the Park Tudor record for yards in a game (309) and in a season (1689). He fits Coach Allen’s ideal mold of a multi-sport athlete, having participated in swimming and lacrosse in addition to football. Lloyd opted to redshirt last season, however, he was awarded four Scout Team Player of the Week accolades. Although the running back position has the makings to be one of the deeper positions on Indiana’s depth chart, do not be surprised to see Lloyd continue to impress throughout the summer and earn playing time come fall.
