Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: #25 (Luke Timian)

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 194 Pounds

Hometown: Southlake, Texas (Southlake Carroll)

Position: Wide Receiver

Benched at Oklahoma State to walk-on at Indiana to scholarship at Indiana to All-Big Ten team. That's Timian's college career goals in a nutshell. Every year Luke Timian has raised his standards for himself and every year he's upped his game enough to make you wonder why he was overlooked. Since the senior wide receiver's transfer to become a walk-on Indiana, he's done nothing but improve, and last year he earned a scholarship.

You could say taking the financial burden off him and his family lit the spark to his junior breakout season that earned him Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors and a nomination for the Burlsworth trophy-- a huge and well-deserved honor in itself. His junior breakout season ended with 68 receptions (3rd in the Big Ten, tied for 39th nationally), for 589 yards (13th in the Big Ten)-- an average of 5.7 receptions (3rd in the Big Ten, tied for 31stnationally) and 49.1 yards (12th in the Big Ten) per game; and also two touchdowns. In conference games, the Texas native averaged 6.2 catches (2nd in the Big Ten) for 57.9 yards (7th in the Big Ten). Timian ended up returning 12 punts for 90 yards and set a career-high 13 receptions at Maryland in 2017 to put a tie for 4th in program history and second-most receptions by a Big-Ten receiver in a single game.

Entering his senior year, things will be different for Timian. Living up to senior leadership expectations takes a lot of responsibility and time, and so will getting comfortable with the new quarterbacks.

"It's been a lot of work, trying to get on the same page with all three of them, because all three could play.” Timian said referring to the quarterbacks at Big Ten Media Days last month, “But it's also exciting, just to see them all compete with each other … those guys are really athletic and fast, and I feel that's important in this league, especially, because those are fast D-linemen who are chasing you. So for those guys to all have that extra (running) ability is huge for us." Getting familiar with Michael Penix Jr throwing left-handed and Brandon Dawkins, who didn't partake in Spring ball, has been the focus during practice this offseason.

The rest of the time he's been in the film room. “I spent a lot of the time this summer in the film room. Watching NFL tape, watching defenses, studying coverages, getting with my coaches,” Timian explained.

“This year I expect to be first team All-Big Ten. Those are my expectations, and I will say those weren't mine last year.” Long story short, don't underestimate Luke Timian his senior year. He's hungry for All-Big Ten team honors and I expect nothing less from him.
