Countdown to Kickoff: #13 – Isaac James

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 195 pounds

Hometown: Carmel, IN (Carmel)

Class/Position: Redshirt Junior/Defensive Back

The Hoosiers are just under two weeks until kickoff in Miami and today we highlight two players who used to both play offense but now play on opposite sides of the ball. Isaac James, a redshirt junior, originally played wide receiver for Indiana but moved to defensive back during the 2017 season. Over the spring, he learned the husky position and is now playing in a spot where the coaches believe is more natural to him at defensive back.

In high school, he played quarterback, wide receiver, running back and defensive back so he clearly knows the game well and is a flexible player. During the 2016 season he appeared in all 12 games primarily on special teams and made five tackles. This season, after moving to defensive back, he has the potential to see field time and adds more depth to the defensive unit.

Countdown to Kickoff: #13 – Mike Fiacable

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 205 pounds

Hometown: Fort Wayne, IN (Bishop Dwenger High School)

Class/Position: Redshirt Junior/Quarterback

The second player we highlight, Mike Fiacable, walked-on during the 2015 season and took a redshirt year. Coming out of Bishop Dwenger high school he was a first team all-state and all-conference selection. As a senior, he passed for 2,800 yards and 26 touchdowns. Fiacable rushed for 610 yards and 15 TDs and he holds the school single-season records in total yardage and total touchdowns.

As a Hoosier, he didn’t see action during the 2016 season but last year he saw field time in the victories over Georgia Southern, Charleston Southern, and Rutgers. Fiacable’s playing time may be cut since IU has added Brandon Dawkins and Mike Penix to the QB room.

EDITORS NOTE: Brandon Dawkins is wearing number 13 on offense. We wanted to to give him his own day.
