Hoosiers Land Commitment from JUCO DB Tyrik McDaniel

The Indiana Hoosiers have a lot of needs to address in this recruiting cycle. One of the primary areas of concern is finding players that can step in and contribute in the secondary after the departure of multiple starters from this past season’s squad. IU was able to add one piece to the puzzle as they secured the commitment of 6’1” South Carolina native Tyrik McDaniel. The safety was committed to East Carolina after spending the season at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas but he decommitted and is now the tenth member of the Hoosiers 2023 class.

McDaniel was only able to play in five games for Independence (of Last Chance U fame) before he broke his hand but he left a strong impression on those that saw him. He was named Second-Team All-Conference with 41 tackles, five tackles for loss and four pass break-ups. 247Sports considers McDaniel the number three safety coming from JUCO and he will either have three seasons of eligibility or two seasons remaining, depending on how the NCAA rules his 2022 season and whether or not he is granted a medical redshirt.

The Hoosiers have been very active so far in pursuing incoming transfers so keep checking Hoosier Huddle for continuing coverage of the offseason.
