Indiana defensive lineman Beau Robbins came to IU as a four-star recruit out of Carmel, Indiana as part of the 2019 recruiting class. Despite the high ranking it took Robbins until 2021 to get regular playing time, Robbins’s motor never stopped.
“Work, work, work work and keeps his head down doesn't say boo and just keeps working.” Indiana defensive coordinator Chad Wilt said about the redshirt junior.
Robbins’s hard work paid dividends in Indiana’s season opening win against Illinois. With starting defensive end James Head out with an injury, Robbins played more and came up with a huge sack on the Illini’s final drive. Robbins finished the night with two tackles.
“I mentioned him specifically in our team meeting this morning. So proud of Beau. What an amazing young person. Just a hard, hard worker. Smart, tough, dependable. He's gained a lot of on really good weight this off season. He, man, came up huge for us.” Indiana head coach Tom Allen said on Monday.
Robbins is an excellent example of perseverance in a day when it is easy to hit the NCAA Transfer Portal if you don’t see the field early in a career. His play was pointed out by the coaches in team meetings on Monday.
“Just the way (Beau’s) come on, he's just been steady. He's never wavered. He doesn't just -- he hasn't always been a guy that's been starting. And I see that changing here soon. But just so proud of him. He comes here, he gets developed. His body's changed in the last year dramatically because of his work ethic and his diet.” Allen explained.
It was a pass rush move that Robbins had practiced hundreds of times.
“All game I had been going getting good power rushes. So I went up, lined up on the edge, kind of saw it panned out and saw I was getting the one on one where he just be my guy got to the QB and ended up getting the win” Robbins said of his late sack.
Robbins’s hard work has paid off. On this week’s depth chart he is listed as the starting defensive end in front of Myles Jackson and the injured Head.
“We know Rome wasn't built in a day, but you stack a brick each day and keep making those walls grow, keep building the buildings brick-by-brick and that's Beau Robbins in a nutshell.” Wilt added.
