Allen Says Staff Decisions Will Come After the Season Ends

Indiana football fans want blood and after the Hoosiers 38-3 loss to Rutgers, the fan base has had enough of the 2021 season. However, when asked about personnel changes, particularly those regarding the coaching staff, Allen is not going to give the mob of angry Hoosiers what they want.
“Those decisions will all be made when the season is over as far as just the evaluation of that. Nothing is going to happen right now.” Allen said after the game. “Everything gets evaluated. You have a season like this, you always evaluate everything anyways. But a season like this and things don't go the way you want them to go, you've got to a take a hard look at every part of your program, all three phases, all the coaches, and myself included, but bottom line is we've got to find a way to win a football game right now.”
All of the heat is on IU’s second-year offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan and offensive line coach Darren Hiller. The Hoosiers offense failed to score a touchdown again for the third time in Big Ten play this season. IU has scored one offensive touchdown or fewer in three other Big Ten games. For the season the Hoosiers are 12th in the conference in scoring at 20.8 yards per game and last when playing Power Five opponents at just 11.7 points per game.
Injuries have hurt the Hoosiers, but it is not an excuse as the poor performances started early and often. Additionally, the offensive line could be to blame for the banged up quarterbacks as they have allowed 23 sacks and 55 tackles for loss. The play calling is head scratching and the staff continues to run out the same under-performing players.
“ the lack of high-level quarterback play has been not to what I want or expect. And then got to evaluate up front as well because it obviously starts up front.” Allen also said after the game. “At this point, we're not scoring points. So, it's not even close to what we want to it be. It's not even close to the way we want it to look. So that's something we have to look, and we will. At this point right now it's trying to find a way to get ourselves in a position to go win a football game, which we've not been able to do.”
Allen told reporters after the game what he wants his offense to be. “I envision this is being able to stress the defense and stay on the field. We like to be able to utilize -- to play winning football where you drive down the field and you use up the clock. You have different tempos that you're able to utilize through that.”
For now, nobody on the offensive staff has received a pink slip, but the end of the season is looming and if Tom Allen wants to be successful in Bloomington again, decisions need to happen. But all of those decisions will come after the Old Oaken Bucket Game in two weeks.
