2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 97 Days (Orlando Greenlow)

Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today we look at an intriguing incoming freshman Orlando Greenlow.

Name: Orlando Greenlow

Hometown: Shreveport, Louisiana (Northwood High School)

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Freshman

Height/Weight: 6’5”/210 pounds

Social Media: Twitter (@1loyalty2)

Greenlow is listed on the IU website as a wide receiver, but his position is still up in the air. At 6’5” he could be a force at tight end if he grows into his frame. He also could be a difference maker on defense on the edge.

When Allen was describing Greenlow he said he could, “play receiver, can rush the quarterback, could be a tight end. Not totally sure he knows that. We've talked about that, but you find long athletes that can run.”

Greenlow is a rare California native to come east to play for IU. However, Allen attributed his interest in IU to the Big Ten expanding west with USC and UCLA.

“He is one that when the Big Ten kind of moved out west there and included USC and UCLA, adding them allowed us to really expand a little bit out there. He was a beneficiary of that, and excited to have Orlando with us as a part of our program now.” Allen said.

Greenlow was a multi-sport athlete in high school, an attribute that is important to Allen and the staff. Between his junior and senior seasons, Greenlow made 27 catches for 486 yards and six touchdowns. In addition to football, Greenlow played basketball and ran track. He holds the Lawndale High School record for the 100-meter (11.08), 200-meter (22.84) and 400-meter dash (54.31).

The Hoosiers have a need at both tight end and off the edge on defense. While Greenlow may need a season to grow into those positions, he has the athletic attributes to develop into a nice player for IU.
