Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2023 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season on September 2nd against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Every day, we look at players on the current roster and highlight the players' roles in the upcoming season. Today we look at Freshman Defensive Lineman J’mari Monette.

Name: J’mari Monette

Hometown: Alexandria, Louisiana

Position: Defensive Line

Year: Redshirt Freshman

Height/Weight: 6’4 , 282

It’s easy to see what Monette brings to the table. Standing at 6’4” and over 280 pounds Monette lined up on the outside of the line at Alexandria High School Northwest of New Orleans. He is an explosive player who led his team to a runner-up in the 5A state football playoffs. He was ranked as a three-star and the number 32 player in the state.

Monette’s film is impressive. He’s explosive player with an ability to get off the block. He’s not fooled easily and has great use of his hands He received offers from big power five schools including Texas, Mississippi State, and Baylor.

Last season, Monette took a redshirt year and did not see the field but this season he’s got a chance to prove himself. He’ll be behind a revamped defensive line with the additions of Andre Carter and Anthony Jones. Carter along with Jones are good role model to have in the room and show Monette and the other young defensive linemen the ropes.
