2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 87 Days (Brody Foley)
/Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)
The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will take a look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today’s countdown focus is on redshirt freshman tight end Brody Foley.
Name: Brody Foley
Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio (Anderson High School)
Position: Tight End
Year: Redshirt Freshman
Height/Weight: 6’6”/250 pounds
Brody Foley and Ryan Miller are going to be inextricably linked during their careers at IU. They wear numbers 86 and 87, they are both tight ends from Ohio, they both measure at 6’6” and they entered in the same recruiting class. The two noticeable differences between the pair: Foley has not been forced to come back from an injury and Foley weighs in nearly 25 pounds heavier than Miller. Nonetheless, the same issues apply to Foley as they do to Miller. Transitioning from a tight end in high school to one in college is a difficult process because of all the different things a tight end is asked to do. In addition to developing as a pass catcher, the tight end has to learn how to block guys that he is no longer automatically physically superior to.
Brody Foley was a tight end and defensive lineman at Anderson High School and was ranked the 16th best prospect in the state of Ohio, slightly ahead of Ryan Miller. He was first-team All-Ohio as a defensive lineman in 2021 and caught five touchdown passes as a senior. Foley and Miller are both competing with Aaron Steinfeldt and James Bomba along with true freshman Sam West to crack the rotation at tight end. Indiana’s offensive scheme is in transition but they figure to play with two tight ends on the field in some formations. In addition, Foley could function as an H-Back in some lineups. The competition between the young tight ends throughout fall camp is going to be fierce but Brody Foley clearly figures to be in the mix for some snaps and he still has several years of eligibility and has a path for a nice career in Bloomington.
The countdown continues with a new profile each and every day so come back to hoosierhuddle.com daily!
