2023 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 80 Days (Chris Freeman)

Written by: Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The 2023 edition of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is officially underway! We are counting down from 100 to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season. Each day, we will look at one (or two) players on the current Indiana football roster and highlight the player’s role in the upcoming season. Today we look at kicker Chris Freeman.

Name: Chris Freeman

Hometown: Zionsville, Indiana (Zionsville)

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Redshirt Sophomore

Height/Weight: 6’2”/197 pounds

Social Media: Twitter (@cfreem9)

Chris Freeman was Indiana’s kickoff specialist in 2022 as he appeared in all 12 games and now has 16 games played under his belt. Freeman came to IU from Zionsville High School where he was a three-time all-state selection and owns program records for field goals made and longest field goal (52 yards).

In 12 games last year, Freeman had 22 touchbacks on 41 kickoffs and put two kicks out of bounds. Freeman also excelled off the field as he earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.

During the spring, Freeman was given a chance to get into the mix as the Hoosiers’ field goal kicker for 2023. However, the job was not won in the spring and incoming five-star kicker Nicolas Radicic will now join the competition this summer as a true freshman.

Freeman will likely be IU’s kickoff specialist again in 2023, but needs to do a better job of keeping the ball in bounds and putting kicks deeper in the end zone.

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff rolls on with Day 79 tomorrow!
