Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2023 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2023 Indiana University football season on September 2nd against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Every day, we look at players on the current roster and highlight the players' roles in the upcoming season. Today we dive into the past with former Indiana running back Yamar Washignton
Name: Yamar Washington
Hometown: Houston, Texas
Position: Running back
Year: Senior
Washington comes in at number 39 for the Hoosier Huddle countdown after putting up impressive numbers at IU during the 2002, 2004, and 2005 seasons. His best season came during his freshman campaign where he ran for over 680 yards and reached the end zone nine times. He missed the entire 2003 season after having reconstructive knee surgery in his left knee. Overall, he finished his career with the Hoosiers average about four yards per carry and reaching the end-zone 11 times.
After finishing his football career at IU, Washington went as an undrafted Rookie to the Washington Redskins. His pro football career did not last long. After retiring from Football Washington went back to his hometown of Houston Texas to teach strength and condition.
Washington was inspired by his mother’s perseverance which helped him on and off the field. Also, his welcome to College Football Moment was when he saw Antwaan Randle El running.
