The Hoosiers picked up a solid transfer portal commitment this offseason when Nicolas Toomer decided to join the Hoosiers from Stanford. A one-time Indiana recruiting target out of high school, Toomer ultimately decided to head to Stanford and was there for four seasons before entering the portal this offseason. In high school, he was rated a 3-star top 500 prospect by 247Sports and intercepted 16 passes over his four seasons. He was also a state champion in the 400-meter, 4x400-meter relay, and the triple jump. At Stanford, he appeared in just one game his first two seasons, but totaled 20 appearances in the last two seasons, amassing seven tackles, five pass breakups, and one tackle for loss.

Toomer’s greatest asset is his versatility – he has the ability to play both cornerback and safety in the defensive backfield, of which Indiana suffered significant losses this offseason.

“[I’m] a versatile defensive back that can play anywhere in the secondary,” said Toomer. “I’ve grown to be more of a student in this game which allows me to anticipate and play faster.”

Toomer has two seasons of eligibility remaining and looks to be a strong contender for a starting position this year on defense.
