Indiana football had a disappointing 2021 season, and unfortunately that carried over to the leg of Charles Campbell. After nailing 10-of-11 field goal attempts and all 25 extra points in 2020, Campbell came into the season with extremely high expectations. He was still solid – nailing 13-of-18 field goal attempts and all 20 extra points – but he left some desired for his final season. Campbell will enter 2022 having made 25-of-31 (80.6 percent) of his field goal attempts and all 46 of his extra points. He sits 10th on the program’s career field goals list. Campbell is 4-of-5 from 50-plus yards and his four 50-yarders are second only to Pete Stoyanovich's six from 1985-88 in Hoosier lore.

"Charles did not have the year he expected to have, none of us expected to have," special teams coach Kasey Teegardin said earlier this spring. "He has to be more consistent, for sure, in the way that he approaches things and prepares for when his opportunity is called. We put him in some tough kicks last year, but he had the 55-yarder at Maryland. We feel like he can handle those situations. We're excited about his leg power."

On top of place kicking duties, Campbell will compete with Chris Freeman for kickoff responsibilities after the graduation and departure of Jared Smolar. Expect that competition to continue into the fall, but Campbell has a strong hold on the starting place kicking spot.
