The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff continues its long run of offensive linemen. It is arguably the most scrutinized position on this team and will be a major factor in whether or not IU gets back on its feet. Today’s featured player is redshirt sophomore lineman Randy Holtz

Holtz came to IU with a lot of fanfare out of Fort Wayne. He was a finalist for the 2019 Indiana Mr. Football award and named the Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFCA) position award winner (offensive line). Holtz was also a two-time IFCA Top 50 selection and two-time all-state honoree as well as a member of three sectional championship teams and one regional champion.

Despite redshirting his freshman season, Holtz played in three games. He upped that number to 11 in 2021, so he has the size and experience to break into the lineup this season and maybe into a starting role at guard. Holtz did have offseason shoulder surgery that limited in the spring and has given a couple of the other offensive linemen a head start on the 2022 season. Should Holtz be 100-percent recovered from his injury, he could be the opening nigh starter a guard.
