The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is heading towards the hallway mark! For the 100 days leading up to kickoff, we at Hoosier Huddle will feature every player from the 2022 roster in anticipation of Indiana’s first game of the season against Illinois in Bloomington. Today, we will highlight a member of IU’s most recent recruiting class, Trevell Mullen.

Trevell Mullen (Freshman)

Hometown: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 170 Pounds

Position: Cornerback

Mullen Island added a new member to the Hoosiers this offseason, as the younger brother of Tiawan joined Indiana as a part of the 2022 recruiting class. As a smaller defensive back, Tiawan fell a bit under the radar in terms of recruiting rankings; the same cannot be said about Trevell. Trevell was a 4-star prospect ranked as the 177th best player nationally and the 19th best cornerback by Rivals. The Under Armour All American became the third Mullen to play in the All-American Bowl. A few weeks ago, he was named by Sports Illustrated as number 49 in the Big Ten’s top incoming freshman.

Like his brother, Trevell also ran track in high school and will bring a lot of speed to Indiana’s defense. He will have a lot of competition from experienced guys ahead of him on the depth chart, but I would expect him to certainly see time his freshman season.

Fifth-year senior corner Jaylin Williams has taken Mullen and the other younger defensive backs under his wing. “I am glad that they chose IU, and they chose to come make our team better," said Williams. "It's just teaching them how to stay focused and how to learn the playbook. Telling them not to overthink and be confident in yourself and your abilities. You are going to mess up. Nobody's perfect, so just take the opportunity when you mess up as a learning experience and don't just look at it as a mistake. Everybody makes mistakes."
