The 2021 Countdown to Kickoff continues! There are still 93 days left until the Indiana Hoosiers begin their 2021 season with a clash in Iowa City against the Iowa Hawkeyes but this countdown will hopefully help us all pass the long summer. Today’s profile piece is on Charles Campbell, a sophomore kicker who had a huge 2020 season in route to second team All-Big Ten honors.

Name: Charles Campbell

Hometown: Jackson, TN

Position: Kicker

Year: Redshirt Junior

Height/Weight: 5’9”/175 pounds

Campbell is entering his fourth year in the Hoosier program. After redshirting in 2018 and going two-for-two in field goals in 2019 as a redshirt freshman, the former five-star kicker burst onto the scene in 2020 as one of the best kickers in the Big Ten.

Campbell hit 10-of-11 field goals including three from 50 or more yards and was a perfect 25-of-25 on extra points. He was a Phil Steele first-team All-Big Ten selection and a second-team selection by the coaches and media. However, there was not a more consistent kicker in the league than Campbell.

According to Campbell himself he’s “been working on (his) field-goal height and accuracy from distance. But I feel the most important piece that I have been working on in spring ball is breaking in our new holder Chase Wyatt. I have been getting a lot of reps with him trying to get that togetherness down.”

Wyatt and Campbell are roommates so they know each other well off the field, but timing on extra points is a little different.

“Chase (Wyatt) and I are roommates, so we are very close. We normally work a lot together over the summer, so it is just getting in those live reps and getting under pressure with Chase to see if he does well, which he has done really well. That is probably about it. Everything is going very smoothly." Campbell said in the spring.

The Hoosiers will need another consistent year from the sophomore kicker who should be the front runner for the Big Ten Kicker of the year. Campbell has made important kicks throughout his IU career and you can bet there will be more hugely important kicks in 2021.
