2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 92 Days Part II (Chase Wyatt)
/Written by Nate Comp
The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff has begun! There are just 92 days until Indiana’s first game of the season against Iowa in Kinnick Stadium. Today, we will highlight a pair of players: outside linebacker Alfred Bryant and punter Chase Wyatt.
Chase Wyatt (Sophomore)
Hometown: Noblesville, Indiana
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 196 Pounds
Position: Punter/Holder
Walk-on and 2020 Academic All-Big Ten selection Chase Wyatt has not yet seen game action in his two years with the Hoosiers, but that is likely to change in 2021. Though his listed position is as a punter, Wyatt is planning to serve as Indiana’s holder – a position that kicker Charles Campbell does not take lightly.
“I have been working on my field-goal height and accuracy from distance,” said Campbell this spring. “But I feel the most important piece that I have been working on in spring ball is breaking in our new holder, Chase Wyatt. I have been getting a lot of reps with him trying to get that togetherness down."
Campbell went 10-for-11 on field goals and made all 25 of his extra points last season. Kasey Teegardin is the special teams coordinator, but Wyatt will have to live up to the standards of Campbell as much as he does Teegardin.
“Chase and I are roommates, so we are very close,” continued Campbell. “The biggest transition would probably be timing. We normally work a lot together over the summer, so it is just getting in those live reps and getting under pressure with Chase to see if he does well, which he has done really well.”
