43 days remain until kickoff of the 2021 IU football season. The Hoosiers will kick off the season against Iowa on Sept. 4th. Make sure to keep checking the Hoosier Huddle website each day for a new player in the 100-day countdown. The 43rd player is incoming freshman Maurice Freeman.

Maurice Freeman

Height: 6’0’’

Weight: 200 pounds

Hometown: Norfolk, VA

Position: Linebacker

In high school, Freeman played defensive back for Oscar Smith high school, where he was an all-region selection as a junior totaling 55 tackles, five sacks, 14 for loss as well as five forced fumbles and an interception.

The three star recruit helped to lead his team to back to back state title appearances as well. He was also the number 33 prospect in Virginia according to 247sports.com.

Freeman met with the media earlier this summer to discuss his adjustment to college football. He also talked about where he expected to be playing this season.

“I see myself playing safety, like a hybrid safety. Coming off the edge, or like playing man-to-man. We call it husky, that's what I’m playing,” Freeman said.

Freeman also enjoys and excels when he is playing man-to-man coverage.

“I really like playing man, so it’s really a man position. We play man a lot. I love coming off the edge. Coming down and setting the edge and splitting the red gaps and everything. So, that’s what I really like about it,” Freeman said.

Freeman will look to battle for playing time at the “husky” position this year at training camp.
