2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 31 Days (Bryant Fitzgerald)

31 days remain until kickoff of the 2021 IU football season. The Hoosiers will kick off the season against Iowa on Sept. 4th. Make sure to keep checking the Hoosier Huddle website each day for a new player in the 100-day countdown. The 31st player is red-shirt senior Bryant Fitzgerald.

Hometown: Indianapolis,IN.
Position: Husky-Safety
Fitzgerald brings his senior leadership to the Hoosiers defense this year under new defensive coordinator Charlton Warren. Fitzgerald will look to continue his success at the husky position from last season. The husky position is a hybrid position between linebacker and defensive back.
Last season he started all eight games at the position where he totaled 17 tackles, 13 solo, one for loss, and two pass break ups.
During his sophomore season, Fitzgerald appeared in 13 games and started in five of them at free safety. In those games he totaled 27 tackles, 23 solo, one for loss, three pass breakups and one quarterback hurry.
Fitzgerald shot onto the scene during his freshman year in 2018 where he led the team with three interceptions, two forced fumbles and six takeaways. He tied for the big-ten lead in interceptions by a freshman. He also added 31 tackles, 24 total and two for loss.
Fitzgerald will look to continue his consistent play during his final season under head coach Tom Allen. In addition, Fitzgerald will use his senior leadership and experience to help lead the defense at the husky position this season.
