The Indiana Hoosiers are just 13 days away from kicking off their 2021 season in Iowa City against the Hawkeyes. Today we are talking a look at a wide receiver who burst onto the scene in 2020, Miles Marshall.

Name: Miles Marshall

Hometown: Lilburn, GA

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Redshirt Junior

Height/Weight: 6’ 4”/212 pounds

The Georgia native came into his own with the Hoosiers in 2020 after arriving in Bloomington as part of the 2018 recruiting class. Marshall redshirted his freshman year while playing in one game. In 2019 Marshall began to see more playing time as he appeared in all 13 games for the Hoosiers in their 8-5 campaign, including a start against Purdue. Marshall made 16 catches for 196 yards and scored a touchdown.

2020 was Marshall’s breakout year as he started seven games and finished with 19 catches for 290 yards. He is slated to be starting opposite Ty Fryfogle in 2021 and expectations are for him to a really solid option.

“I wake up every morning and tell myself I want to be the best receiver on the field," Marshall said. "It is no disrespect to Ty or anyone else in our group. I just want to be the best receiver on the field. I want to go to the next level and for me to go to the next level, I have to be the best receiver on the field. That is how we compete with each other. Ty wants to be the best receiver on the field, as well. We just compete and get better that way."

His position coach Grant Heard has some improvements Marshall can make, but loves that he is embracing that mindset.

“He needs to be more physical on contested catches," Heard said. "He can do it, but he needs to be more consistent doing it.

"The great thing with Miles is he can play any position. If somebody goes down, and I need to flip somebody, he knows the whole play book inside and out. I feel comfortable moving him around and put him in different spots and use the skill sets that best suit him."
