Even with the recent reports of the Big Ten conference cancelling 2020 football, the Hoosier Huddle Countdown carries on until it is made official. With 25 days to kickoff, we double dip featuring the second Hoosier to wear the No. 25 jersey in 2020– redshirt freshman quarterback Will Jontz.
Name – Will Jontz
Position – Quarterback
Year/Hometown – Redshirt Freshman/ Brighton, Michigan (Brighton)
Height – 6’3”
Weight – 221 pounds
Hailing from Brighton, Michigan, Will Jontz joined the IU football program as a walk-on in 2019. Jontz came off a three-year letterwinning career as a quarterback at Brighton High School, where he was a dedicated athlete who lettered in basketball and track. To this day, Jontz holds the school record in the 4x200 meter relay.
As a redshirt in 2019, he was awarded scout team player of the week twice— for Indiana’s victories over Ball State and Nebraska.
Jontz has not wasted time in the offseason— he has bulked up and comes back to Bloomington 26 pounds stronger. He is entering a stacked quarterback room, but could very well have a chance at some reps in 2020. He’ll battle Dexter Williams for the third-string spot in fall camp.
