I'm old enough to remember when women's tennis was involved in a similar dispute with the powers that be, and how they met with similar resistance based on similar arguments. I think the watershed moment was when Billie Jean beat Bobby Riggs. Things started changing up after that. The WNBA is a long way from a watershed moment of its own, but it's early days.

Back in the day it was slow and boring. Chrissy was a machine, but it was nothing more than baseline strokes back and forth, back and forth. It took Martina and her ilk to bring power to the game. Then of course she was derided for being a bull dike and manwoman.
