For the people here who think that illegals are highly motivated to illegally register to vote, and then to illegally vote.

WHY?

I would think that, if I were here illegally, I would want to be basically invisible to anyone having anything to do with the government. Keep your head down. Make money. Feed your family. Make no waves (which is also why their crime rates are actually quite low, as well).

Would I be eager to voluntarily give someone my name and address? Of course not. I don't want anyone knowing I'm here.  Is it a priority of mine to elect Democrats, more important than keeping a low profile? I also think not.

What would drive the illegal to stand up and be counted?  It makes no sense on just a basic human motivational level. I don't want to be caught. I don't want to be noticed.

Don’t forget the 24-38 million (crazy we don’t have a firm figure on that), that reside here legally but aren’t citizens.

The population you are talking about are law breakers. Their very presence here is a violation of law.

So your question is why would law breakers want to break the law?

Try again.

Nope. The question is then why would someone who has committed a misdemeanor (one punishable in immigration courts) want to commit a felony, punished in criminal courts?

If you get speeding tickets, does that make you beat your wife?

So all these by-the-book, law abiding legal residents would risk getting booted for felony vote fraud? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense too.

That's a ridiculously stupid argument, and you know it. If someone entered illegally, that means they want to be here. The last thing they want is to get caught. There's no incentive to commit more crime. No one here illegally is thinking "Well, I already broke the law, might as break some more." No. They are thinking "Well, I already broke the law, better keep quiet so no one finds out."

Anything to tell themselves that federalizing elections in order to implement citizenship tests is a good idea, and not at all counter to everything they have ever claimed they stood for.

I’ll put myself in my own shoes. There is no conceivable scenario in which I would find myself residing in another country unlawfully. Like I couldn’t even imagine overstaying a student visa by a day. Much less illegally crossing border. I think most would be the same.

Someone so brazen and unconscientious as to do so. Oh yeah, I could see them voting illegally, especially if they think they’ve gotten away with their residence.

Despicable.

The figure I’m talking about is largely comprised of refugees and student visa holders. I don’t know where we’re getting the idea they’re all “by the book”. Getting caught up in a campus voter drive? Sure I could see that. Some clueless refugee not knowing what they’re doing? Sure that could happen.

I’d grant you green card holders and those on work visas I don’t see doing such a thing. They’ve demonstrated some amount of doing things “by the book”.

I'm sure you could see that. But it's still obviously stupid to most anyone with common sense.

I’ve been critical of many of your statements, motives, intentions & find your political beliefs detestable, but this is the first time I can honestly say that your post, or at least this part of it is just plain stupid.

Really? The right hasn't always claimed to detest federal overreach on general principle? GTFO of here with this bullshit.

Many MAGAs have never really been Republicans or at least never really understood Republican principles. He's one.

I don’t see the law as being unconstitutional but perhaps voter roll maintenance and mail in balloting procedure is a step too far. That does get into procedure that states should control. Democrats can propose amendments or choose to challenge that in the courts.

None of this matters. Thune isn’t going to even try to get rid of the filibuster and he shouldn’t. Democrats were happy to try with their own voting law that absolutely was a breach of federalism.

I hope Sinema was right when she said her and Manchin were running cover for a host of Senate Democrats that wanted to keep the filibuster but appease their constituents.

Don’t abuse our good will, yet again, once Dems take back the Senate and WH. You’ll destroy the country.
