@unclemark he says it’s fake. I believe it’s fake. AI. These are some stupid motherfckrs but not even they are that stupid

DC is a stand up guy. Don't think he would lie on behalf of the administration. Plus I don't know what point Boogie is trying to make. It's impossible for DC to see that his phone is blowing up, check it, see a tweet he didn't make, and delete it?

@bar-down Eric Trump would very likely try to do something like this.  Cormier, I seriously doubt, would out him for it, though.  This is one of those things that probably happened in some fashion, but not how its being portrayed.

@iunorth I don’t believe it by texts.  In person would not surprise me

My social media feeds are full of rhetoric from both sides, but there's a decent push from the liberal influencers that think that Michelle Obama should sue this fighter (and potentially White / UFC) for defamation.

My understanding of defamation is that you have to prove:

1) The accused made a false statement.

2) The false statement was transmitted to others either directly or through a medium (radio / television / emails / etc.)

3) The accused intended harm.

4) The defendant suffered some kind of detriment, either economically, physically, or psychologically.

For this particular instance, I think she would have a solid case for establishing the first three.  That fourth one would be the tough one, but if she has a book coming out soon or if she has scheduled events coming up that could be reasonably proved that attendance / purchases will suffer due to this statement, she might have a shot at a successful case.  Might not even be a huge monetary amount, but it would at least be an opening salvo to others to maybe make them think twice about behavior like this in a public setting.

Might even help tone down the countering "Trump is a Nazi" rhetoric too (I doubt it, but one could hope).

The first few times I saw posts about Michelle Obama being a man, I thought they were just joking because it was too ridiculous to actually believe. Then a long-time friend of mine of mine (now big-time MAGA) made a post about it. I asked him about it being a joke and no he wasn't joking he was serious as a heart attack. He was convinced by "the internet." Obviously, he wanted to believe it because it doesn't take much to figure out it's all nonsense. It's been all over social media the last couple days, and yes, they truly do believe it and ignore the fact that it's baseless.

This Snopes article on it is good at getting to the sources of it. UFC fighter Josh Hokit called Michelle Obama 'a man,' reviving baseless conspiracy theory | Snopes.com

I don't think reasonable people really believe it, and it seems the Obamas are aware of this and just letting it go as fringe stuff from fringe people.

@squeakyclean she’s a public figure. Higher standard. Showing, damages blah blah blah.  She plays it classy and ignores it. That’s the smarter approach than a lawsuit that keeps it in the news

I agree and think that's exactly what she's doing.

While I agree that it is probably the more classy move, you can only turn the other cheek for so long.

It used to be that saying something truly stupid would lead to public ostracization and the shame would typically serve as a warning to others.  I don't know if it's the sense of freedom granted by social media or just a general degradation in common decorum, but it seems like there has been a sense that the repercussions aren't there anymore and the extremists are becoming emboldened (and that is absolutely on both ends of this political spectrum).

Reminds me of an argument I had with a friend's wife.  Our kids were the same age and would play together.  She was a believer in the "Count to three" method, where if you saw bad behavior from your kid, she would speak loudly "One" to let the kid know that they had to stop, and then say "Two" if they kept doing it.  If the kid continued and you got to "Three" then punishment was metered.

The problem I had with that (and I told her as such) was that the kid learned that when he heard "One", he could keep doing the bad behavior all the way up to right before she uttered "three".  There were no consequences, and this kid absolutely learned to push that limit.  He could stop for a bit, and then started anew, often starting the "countdown" over again from "one".

Seems like we've been in that mode for a while in this country.

@squeakyclean there's a phenomenal show called mr inbetween.  i can't recommend it enough.  he's in court ordered therapy and the therapist says something about people behaving badly and his paraphrased response was "because we let people get away with it."  people type things on social media.  hide behind forums saying what they want.  but rarely back it up. and you can tell who they are.  in school you punched someone in the face.  that was always the right way.  the problem with this instant matter is that it's a ufc fighter, no one is punching him in the face, dana white has basically said that his fighters are adults they can say what they want and it's not his business, and the recourse is the court which isn't always a great place to find "justice."  here again what you wrote about defamation isn't correct.  she's a different formula given her status.  so what's she going to do have it go through the mud for years.  nah.

this is just the new world order.  dems call trump a person who orchestrated the murder of millions of people and trump condones the calling of the last first lady a man, which to michelle that accusation has to be terribly hurtful.  obama eats up his charm and he's been linked with celeb chicks like aniston having a crush on him blah blah blah and michelle has to hear she has a dick.  not fun. not cool.

Don't disagree with most of that, but can you expound upon this part.  I understand that being a public figure allows a slightly greater amount of accepted criticism, but is there actual legalese precedence for that?

Who knows if Cormier was hacked, but is there anyone who would be surprised if this DM exchange actually happened?

The Trump family's wealth has increased by billions of dollars in less than a year and a half since Trump took office again. They've made $1.2 million to $2.3 billion in crypto projects alone. Eric and Junior's net worth has increased from $40 million to $50 million each to $400 million and $300 million, respectively.

The Trump family owns a majority stake in the crypto venture World Liberty Financial which was formed in August 2024. Steve Witkoff's son is the CEO. Days before the Jan 2025 Trump inauguration, Abu Dhabi investors bought a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial for $500 million, funneling approximately $187 million to Trump-controlled entities. Other foreign investors have contributed significantly to the Trump family's recent enormous gains. Junior has a significant investment in the prediction markets (which are essentially unregulated gambling sites) and the old man will reportedly soon launch his own prediction company, "Truth Predict."

Trump's ballroom is a "pay to play" arrangement, and other individuals and corporate entities have bought influence in a variety of ways.

We're watching the Trump Crime Family cashing in on the American presidency to the tune of billions of dollars.  There's no one to push back, there are no guardrails, the TCF has no fear of prosecution (Trump's personal lawyer, Blanche, now runs the Justice Department) and there's little doubt that everyone in Trump's inner circle has already been promised preemptive pardons.

They can do whatever they want.  They're all above the law.

And yet there are still people that truly believe that a dem president would be worse.

crazy.

@hurryinghoosiers without question worse. Open borders and criminals on the streets.  Nothing is worse than a progressive.  Nothing.
