@bradstevens feel the same. but winter here. there's a lot of hours in the day.
I almost destroyed my son introducing him to gaming. He got so good so fast it was a super high. My wife fought it at his peak. She couldn’t talk to him through his headgear. She snipped the cable one day. That didn’t work then she literally snipped the cable to his computer. He was so infuriated came racing to her ready to punch her. She faced him down. He stopped and the STOPPED. He saw himself ready to beat her up and realized this wasn’t the life he wanted. He credits that moment with taking control of his life.
We have an Xbox and a PlayStation and a switch. All bought years ago. Daughter used to play Minecraft now and again but hasn’t in probably three or four years now. We were having dinner out the other night and my minion had a blast playing Mario kart. He was great! So I thought eh maybe for Xmas I’ll get him a switch 2 with Mario kart.
These are the current prices of systems.
switch 2 with Mario kart bundle $550-$600
xbox series x $800-$900.
PlayStation 5 pro. $1,400.
It's out of control IYAM. Even worse, you are paying $70-80 per game (if not more) or a $30 monthly subscription to play.

I'm glad he stopped and it sounds like it worked out.
Yes. He’s a happy adult. He had wanted to quit for a while and my help was ineffective. Memorably I was said he should set goals for himself. He was thoughtful for a moment and says, “What do you by goal? Can you give me an example.”I'm glad he stopped and it sounds like it worked out.
sigh
He assures me I was a good father…
I've never done anything more difficult than be a father. I've never been humbled so much or felt like I failed so many days.Yes. He’s a happy adult. But nothing in my life compares to it in importance or meaning.
I'm not saying that's universally true for everyone or needs to be. Just saying I get it, HHLurker, I get it.
+1
Fortunately I got one of the most important things right: always maintained honest communication. I told them both I would never punish them for telling the truth. Told my son it was more important to me he felt free communicating to me than worrying about swear words )that surprisingly released a lot of tension he was feeling).
We all have great communication nowadays.
