We have an Xbox and a PlayStation and a switch. All bought years ago. Daughter used to play Minecraft now and again but hasn’t in probably three or four years now. We were having dinner out the other night and my minion had a blast playing Mario kart. He was great! So I thought eh maybe for Xmas I’ll get him a switch 2 with Mario kart.
These are the current prices of systems.
switch 2 with Mario kart bundle $550-$600
xbox series x $800-$900.
PlayStation 5 pro. $1,400.
one advantage of the x box is you can use it to fire military lasers when the socialists come after you.
Video games should never precede a passion for reading.
A friend’s brother came home with some average grade in reading in junior high school. His father, already a geezer, “sentenced” him to two hours of reading a day. He took it seriously and by the end of the year he was reading V. (Maybe to teach his father a lesson.)
Holy cow, I had no idea the prices had skyrocketed that much.
We bought my kid a PlayStation about 5 years ago. Think it was $500.
Switch was the first video game system he had and he, too, loved MarioKart and was weirdly good at it from his very first time.
Some of those Mario games are actually pretty great for family play
I don't really find those prices all that crazy for a one time investment. You should only have one gaming system, if any. You're either an Xbox or a PlayStation household. That's how it was when I grew up.
Shouldn't be constantly chasing the new releases. And these days they double as streaming devices.
@bradstevens I was shocked. @carramrod dont disagree in theory but the jump in price shocked me. I think we have ps4 and paid $400 or something. $1,400 for the pro today.

Well we were a Tandy Electronic TV Scoreboard (think Pong) household when I was growing up. Then the handhelds (think games like Simon, Mattel Football and Baseball). Then the Sears version of the Atari 2600, the Tele-Games Video Arcade. It became Atari vs Intellivision for a few years, then Colecovision came out flashed in the pan during the ending times of that rivalry. Then the NES vs Sega Master became the big 2 for awhile but by the time SNES and Sega Genesis were butting heads I was married with 3 kids lol. Now, by the time my kids were old enough to play them, PS1 and N64 were the two consoles they preferred.
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

Just get him GTA VI instead. He'll have a blast. His mother will be thrilled.

It's tariffs. They use to be 5 bucks.
@all4you this was EXACTLY my childhood. mattel handheld football was outstanding. hockey was good. fifa was terrible. the leap from atari to intellivision was massive. intellivision baseball. then colecovision. then we got to nintendo and hockey and madden. good shit
He can't play Mario kart on the switch you already have?
Isn't he like 5? He doesn't need a new system.
@bar-down let him start playing the Mario kart you have and then at Christmas, update him to Mario Kart 8 deluxe, one of the best switch games ever.
Easy peazy.
Or don't let him become a video gamer.
Think of all the time that could be spent on skating, or dribbling, or reading.
I was never going to avoid it, but damn I wish my kid never got into it.
