@dbmhoosier Dems are just wrong on this issue.  Dems are wrong on just about every issue out there today. Again I can’t understand how any sensible person could be a Dem in 2026.

Most Americans, about 83 percent, including over 70 percent of Democrats support voter ID. It's only Democratic politicians that resist it. However, we've been winning the battle state by state as more states have voter ID laws now than 20 years ago. If the SAVE Act was just about voter ID, it would probably pass easily. It's more than that, it even includes some totally unrelated trans stuff in it. The SAVE Act has no chance of passing because of all the other shit stuffed into it, and the President wants to shove even more shit into it. Politicians just can't help themselves they want to bundle too many things together in one act. If they would take these things one step at a time, in this case voter ID, they could get things done.

According Grok:

No.
The core text of the SAVE Act / SAVE America Act (as passed by the House) does not contain any provisions specifically addressing transgender people, gender-affirming care, sports participation, or related issues.

It focuses exclusively on election rules: requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, photo ID requirements to vote (in later versions), voter-roll maintenance to remove non-citizens, and related implementation details.

Some opponents have noted that the bill’s strict documentary requirements (especially matching names and documents like birth certificates with current photo IDs) could create practical hurdles for transgender people whose legal documents may not fully align due to name or gender-marker changes, similar to issues that could affect people who changed names after marriage. The bill itself does not single out transgender individuals or address gender markers.

In short: nothing about “trans” is in the actual bill text that has advanced; any such language was limited to unsuccessful proposed amendments.

How many versions have been passed? Per AI there are trans provisions in it:

The SAVE America Act includes specific Republican-backed amendments targeting transgender individuals, alongside its primary focus on federal voter eligibility rules. These additions combine federal election law changes with broader social policy restrictions regarding gender identity. [1, 2]

Explicit Transgender Policy Provisions
  • School Sports Ban: Bars transgender women and girls from participating in school and collegiate sports teams that align with their gender identity.
  • Biological Definition: Defines sex strictly based on a person's reproductive biology and genetics at birth for the purposes of these restrictions.
  • Healthcare Restrictions: Prohibits gender-affirming medical care and transition surgeries for minors. [3, 4]
Voting and Documentation Impact
  • Voter Registration Hurdles: Mandates documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (such as a birth certificate or passport) to register to vote or update registration.
  • ID Discrepancies: Creates potential voting barriers for transgender individuals whose legal names or gender markers do not uniformly match across updated birth certificates, driver's licenses, and passports.
  • There is a consensus on Reddit that matching document requirements disproportionately risk disenfranchising transgender voters who face administrative or state-level hurdles in updating vital records. [7]

****

Regardless, if it was only a voter ID requirement, it would very likely pass.

How often are the individual appropriations bills passed on their own? Or are they combined so they can pass? Politicians don’t have the balls to even vote on the individual bills. Your last sentence is the way it should be but anyone that pays attention to congress knows it doesn’t work that way.

Used to be the 12 individual appropriations bills passed individually each year. We have more Omnibus bills and far more continuing resolutions in recent years as we’ve had increasingly dysfunctional government.

@oneeyedundertaker Wow! You're stupid. You didn’t graduate from IU, did you? Lord, I hope not. That would be another huge embarrassment. Worse than you identifying as a Republican.

This is a perfect microcosm of your approach to everything.  Post something stupid (“you didn’t attend IU, you didn’t graduate, I don’t recognize my old friend anymore”) & move the goal posts every time you’re wrong in a desperate attempt to find some sort of perceived superiority. Keep shooting ace, you’ll hit something one of these days.  🤣🤣🤣
