Isn't Greenland part of NATO?

Not directly. It is a territory of Denmark which is a founding member of NATO so by extension Greenland is part of NATO via Denmark.

So they're protected by Nato.

I would think so but can't say so with 100 percent certainty.

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

That is true, we have military in Greenland. I really don't think that the President would ever try to take Greenland via military action. Cuba? Maybe.

Yes, Greenland is protected by NATO.Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, a founding member of NATO since 1949. NATO's collective defense clause (Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty) applies to the entire territory of member states, including overseas or autonomous regions like Greenland.Key PointsNATO's Article 6 explicitly includes islands in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer under its scope, which covers Greenland.

The 1951 Defense of Greenland Agreement between the United States and Denmark was framed within NATO's collective defense plans, allowing U.S. bases (such as Pituffik Space Base) for the defense of Greenland and the North Atlantic area.

Officials, including the Danish Prime Minister (in 2026 statements), the Finnish Foreign Minister, and various experts, have confirmed that Greenland is covered by NATO's security guarantees and Article 5, meaning an armed attack on Greenland would be considered an attack on all NATO members.

While Greenland handles much of its internal affairs autonomously and is not part of the EU, defense and foreign policy remain under the Kingdom of Denmark, ensuring full NATO protection. This has been highlighted in recent geopolitical discussions, including U.S. interest in the island, where Danish leaders emphasized NATO coverage as a deterrent.

Extension cords are easily disconnected, Clark Griswold. All of these antiqued connections from a day gone by are being exposed. Just like NATO saying, yea we joined but we will play coy so that American old world republicans, simply fund our failed existence and protection there of.

BUT MAGA, will be your retort. What would the US economy look like of 1/2 of the NATO $ stayed home over the last 50 years?

If men were any more stupid, we would have breed for the extinction of women. Proof yet again that WE are the best thing they have going for them.

Congratulations! That's probably the smartest post you've ever made. Too bad you had to cut and paste something to have a smart post . . .

I have no idea what you're trying to say. If it's about NATO countries meeting their defense spending goals, most are now. The invasion of Ukraine was a big motivator for many of them.

Apparently, we're going to try to control Venezuela via a continuing blockade.

Rubio says US won’t govern Venezuela but will press for changes through oil blockade

"MOST ARE NOW" hmmmm

UKRAINE WAS A BIG MOTIVATOR.

I wonder if there were any BIGGER motivators?

You seem to have some serious anti orange colored shaded glasses when trying to obfuscate the truth.

You do know that there is a thing called Google. NATO countries spending as a percent of GDP (goal was 2 percent) increased significantly after the Russian annexation of the Crimea in 2014 and increased significantly again after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They averaged over 2 percent in 2024, almost 3 percent, actually. These are facts. It's also a fact that every President has been pushing NATO countries to meet the 2 percent goal for decades. What do you think you're getting at here?

DECADES. You answered the riddle yourself. Very well done sir.

Which President got it done, after decades of failure, as you say "they pushed for decades"? Pushing a wet rope gets you all wadded up in a knot, swaby. You can blame, but give credit too.

What in the wide world of sports are you talking about? NATO reached their highest average percentage of GDP spending on defense during President Biden's administration. I'm not giving him credit for that. Are you?

@aloha-hoosier I believe they recently promised to go to 5 percent.  Thank you President Trump!

Yes they did earlier this year within 20 years, and they specifically cited the Russian invasion of Ukraine as the catalyst. Some of us actually follow military matters.
