@shooter Or do you really only post about anti Trump things and in your head believe you post all of those things? Surely open borders, defund, minor mutilations, disenfranchising voters, and socialism are a larger “shitstain” and anger you more than untoward tweets?

Posts on this board, if not the opening post of the thread, almost always are in response to posts by others.  Generally in disagreement with posts by others.

Since literally nobody here ever posts in favor of "open borders, defund, minor mutilations, disenfranchising voters, and socialism", there is no compelling reason to rail against those things, though I have from time to time.

On the other hand, there are a lot of you Trump knob-slobberers posting on here, and so pointing out the ridiculousness and especially the hypocrisy of that cult is only natural.

Of course no one posts in favor of open borders, it’s especially ridiculous when said out loud or typed out.  But that’s what every democrat voter on this board is in favor of every time they vote for a Democrat candidate.  No?

No. That's not correct. Everytime? No.

But you understand that is what you’re voting for even if that’s not what you want, right?

Are we going to defend Taiwan when China inevitably invades. I suspect we (China and the US) will come to some kind of treaty to still get chips and shit while handing the island over to China.

Yeah, I wouldn't shop for a steak at Walmart. Meat prices continue to be high, and my son finally started eating and liking steak, so no bueno for me.

I don't think China will take it militarily.

I talked with a Taiwanese scientist--woman in her early 30s, PhD, works for a pharmaceutical company-- at a party over the holidays. She said China is playing a longer game and inflitrating the island with Chinese supporters, flooding them with propaganda, and using other means that they hope will get the people to mostly voluntarily seek reintegration/reunification.  (Sglowrider actually wrote about it a couple of years ago, albeit in a whitewashed way that undersold some of the less ethical things China was engaged in.)  This woman said that there are over 300,000 Chinese brides on the island (she said China will advertise women for Taiwanese men to come over and marry, and then they are brought back to the island) and they are a real problem--or at least perceived that way in Taiwan.

Now, I was a bit skeptical, since this seems a bit over the top, but you can find reports of this type of thing on the internet.

@bradstevens You think Taiwan votes themselves back to being part of China? That's a really long game to play. I think (unpopular opinion likely) that China becomes less authoritarian over the next generation or so. Possibly to a point where the CCP assume more liberal democratic values. Not full on democracy but something much different that what we see today.

But, then again, if our current adventureousness becomes cowboyish, I don't see why they wouldn't just take it. Do you think Taiwan would scuttle the factories?

Will be interesting to see how this goes.

Why rebuilding Venezuela's oilfields won't be easy or cheap after Maduro capture

Whats the gist of this link?  (Behind a paywall).

I’ve always thought that investing in petroleum and infrastructure was very safe and lucrative financial bet providing you have responsible operators.

Oil prices are at their lowest since pre 2022. I wonder how likely oil companies are to make incredibly large investments right now?

So basically, they’re using the Muslim playbook…
