Abolishing prisons isn't a historical position of socialists. It is "crazy," though.@bradstevens well they call themselves socialists but they don’t really want socialism. Fool me once….
@bradstevens absolutely. I was noting the pattern. Defund. We didn’t really mean defund. Socialists. We don’t really mean socialism

Pass Fail was a thing at IU in the early 70s.
Attacking mental health issues isn't based on some ideology founded in lazy philosophy. You can question their methods, sure, but I don't think this falls under the category of Woke. This seems very woke and also nuts. University of Michigan adopts pass-fail grades to ease mental health | Fox News
I think the DSA candidates are pretty candid about what they ultimately want and what worldview they hold. This Hong woman is walking shit back, though, sure.@bradstevens absolutely. I was noting the pattern. Defund. We didn’t really mean defund. Socialists. We don’t really mean socialism
I think the bigger problem is the people on the left who claim to be mainstream and who gaslight about what the DSA and progressives actually want and would do. The pattern is usually: (1) you're making it up; (2) OK, it was said, but no one actually believes it; (3) OK, some far, far left nutjobs believe that but that's just a few fringe people's whacky ideas; (4) OK, it is part of a systemic ideology, but they won't enact it; (5) OK, people are trying to enact it, but what's the big deal?
By the time they admit it's a big deal, they laugh it off and act like 1-5 never happened or look back and say Oh, well, it was a crazy time, wasn't it?
For far too many people, if the other side points something out, they immediately dig in their heels and take the opposite stance, no matter how legitimate the opposing side's point (they can't have a good point! they're libtards or MAGA!) or how crazy their tribe's current position.

I could make a case that adopting P/F grades to manipulate transcripts is part of the woke ideology we discussed in the education thread. Freshmen have struggled since universities and colleges became a thing.
Depends on the justification. If they said it was to balance the playing field for oppressed students, I'd agree with you.Attacking mental health issues isn't based on some ideology founded in lazy philosophy. I suppose I was applying the terminology broader than just to social justice and racial issues.
Merriam-Webster's definition: "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues"

And that just might be the real justification. Students need to learn early whether they can cut the mustard rather than barely squeaking by with what would have been Ds but were essentially "pass" instead. Life is tough and it's tougher for those that bounce along thinking they're doing well when they aren't.
I’m so confused. I was told woke doesn’t exist. Then I was told it exists but it’s just right wing propaganda making it seem worse than it really is. It’s not really anything that radical.
Now from AOC: “Woke 1 was crazy.” Huh.

If you want to see, in real time, this phenomenon where they insist stuff isn’t happening hop on over to the Iran War Has Started thread, where @goat is telling me that thinking that Dems want to take what’s mine & turn the country into something else is irrational…
@oneeyedundertaker @hurryinghoosiers entire posting history is denying 1) what Dems have done with re to policies and 2) what they support. It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever encountered. Forever we could debate the merits of a policy. Outcomes. We’re at the point of debating the very existence of them. Yet people like hickory stick with the Dems. They support a party they have to pretend doesn’t stand for what it literally states. Strange stuff

Since there isn't an ignore function, you need self-control. There is no point in responding.
