@socks-shorts-1-2-3-swish In a free society which is why we are the gold standard we all have to be responsible. With great power there is great responsibility. Pardon me, my wife and I saw the recent Spiderman movie.
While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon
In a free society which is why we are the gold standard...
Many think tanks evaluate freedom in societies using different criteria, such as personal safety, rule of law, economic opportunity, and democratic rights. No such rankings, by anyone, have the USA in the top 10 of "most free countries". We are usually in the 15-20 range, despite being in the top 10 in the past.
Finland (scoring a perfect 100 on political and civil liberties) and Switzerland (leading the Human Freedom Index with a score of 9.15) are widely recognized as the most free societies in the world today. Followed by New Zealand, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Australia, etc.

Interesting. The Human Freedom Index gives points for smaller government. US government is large partly because of our military. Every country on the list above the US has formal or strong informal security ties with the US. I'm not a populist but in that context one could say we export freedom. Also interesting to think how these scores would look had the US not become a global superpower. Would a Europe more burdened with a military-industrial complex lose some societal and institutional points on the HFI?
A high cost of living relative to income, and especially the high cost of health care, also hurts USA rankings. But you're right, defense spending is a huge factor also.

That seems to be only part of what is impacting the Size of Government drag on our ranking. Top marginal tax rate, transfers, and subsidies also are significant drags on the score.

Homicide really gets a whole subcategory? Hate to play the woke card but I gotta call inherent cultural bias on that one. Our tradition of murdering each other should be considered a Protected Indigenous Ritual.

So murder is not important in to safety?
"A joke is something said, written, or done to make people laugh or smile."
I’m so confused. I was told woke doesn’t exist. Then I was told it exists but it’s just right wing propaganda making it seem worse than it really is. It’s not really anything that radical.
