Lawyers or anyone that knows.  What was the reasoning for blocking the merger with Jet Blue?  Or is the answer Elizabeth Warren is an idiot?

https://twitter.com/senwarren/status/1765190540427935859?s=46

@bradstevens @co-hoosier can either of you explain why the merger was denied and the rationale for it?

Are they antitrust lawyers and/or experts in transportation economics?  If not, do your own research (which will include references to the Clayton Act) and you'll be at least as informed as they are.

Why Was JetBlue-Spirit Blocked and What Does it Mean for the Airline Industry? - ProMarket

P.S.  Just a wild guess here, but I'm guessing Co-hoosier's short answer will be "Biden killed Spirit." Spirit says soaring jet fuel prices killed Spirit.

They're both lawyers and intelligent.  I respect their opinions. You're neither a lawyer nor intelligent.  And I certainly don't care about your opinion, which is why I ignored your other posts in this thread.

I was trying to be civil and helpful, but that's clearly more than you deserve.  You just default to insults and personal attacks.  Well, since you opened the door...

You are the LAST person who should be calling out someone else's intelligence.  You're unable to read and comprehend anything more than short posts on social media, you're unable to research a topic, provide analysis or critically think, and your writing is embarrassingly bad.  (For example, "the price of oil has went down recently...").  I have little doubt that, if I knew you, I'd be sure to limit topics of conversation to the weather. traffic and sports.

LOL.  YOU do, or your first post in the thread wouldn't have included references to Elizabeth Warren and Biden.

@snarlcakes My legal expertise, which is incredibly deep and broad and never wrong, doesn't include that stuff.  i just see gas expensive.  that i get.  trump sucks ass.

I was talking to my boss yesterday who said the big wigs at corporate are really getting nervous.  He said they budgeted for $4 fuel/$5 diesel.  With fuel now $5 for regular and $6 for diesel, we're blowing that out of the water really fast.

I imagine other companies are feeling rising prices as well.  I could see people starting to get let go.

It's comical watching people rushing to blame this on a 2-1/2 year old court case rather than a 60 day war.

Yes.  The airline itself said the skyrocketing cost of jet fuel is what ulimately did them in.

Spirit's restructuring plan assumed jet fuel costs of about $2.24 US a gallon in 2026 and $2.14 US in 2027, but prices climbed to about $4.51 US a gallon by the end of April, leaving the carrier unable to survive without fresh financing.

What do you call what Biden-Warren pulled on them?

I can’t believe they didn’t say poor management/budgeting, etc., or take responsibility themselves.
Should we expect all airlines to go out of business then?

No doubt fuel prices played a part, but they’ve been in trouble for years…

I've read almost nothing on it and can still tell you how it went down.  Socialists tend to be arrogant and think their smarter than the market.

The Biden administration thought 6 airlines was better than 5, because of more competition, which can be true and makes logical sense. But the market was saying it couldn't support 6 airlines, hence Spirit wanting to merge with Blue.  The Biden administration wanting to look tough on big corporations and/or because their arrogant dumba#%es said no. You can't merge because we know better than the markets.  Fast forward to today and the market had the final say.  And consumers have fewer options because of dumb government.

Also, we're not hanging out.  Your IQ is too low.  That's a joke, I have dumb friends as well.  You can always buy me a beer and tell me how the Hoosiers are going to look in the fall.

We've been getting meaningless missives from above about saving fuel, all of which are worthwhile but are just nibbling at the edges. I've been harping for the entire five years I've been there about how dumb we are with our buying practices. The most convenient station is across the street, which is where most of our gas is purchased. It's also the most expensive station in town. We also have a Mercedes van that runs back and forth to the Indy warehouse twice a day. It gets filled up every day. Premium fuel is recommended, and they're too chickenshit to use mid-grade or regular.

Trump is highly relevant to the discussion.  Trump's war has caused jet fuel prices (and the cost of many other things) to skyrocket.  These ultra low-cost carriers aren't operating on much of a margin to begin with, and the doubling of Spirit's fuel costs, in just two months, was just too much for them to overcome.

It was a federal judge (appointed by Reagan), not Biden, who ruled two and a half years ago that the proposed merger was violative of Section 7 of the Clayton Act.  His decision was based on the law.

Like goat last night, following a similar exchange with you, I'm out. You're posting in bad faith.
