I've also long advocated for voter ID, only citizens voting in federal elections and cleaning up the voter rolls, which by the way is already a requirement in federal law. I wholeheartedly agree with this. And for what it's worth, I'm not against voter ID laws, in and of themselves. Every time I've voted in Ohio I've had to show an ID. It seems to me like a relatively low bar to clear.
I am against this administration's DHS checking the voting rolls. The states handle their own voting rolls just fine. Instances of noncitizens voting and/or voting fraud are inconsequential and requiring all voter rolls to be vetted by the federal government seems like it'd allow whichever political party that holds the majority to put their thumb on the scale on who can and can't vote.
More overreach by this administration, and another middle finger to the Constitution, federalism and longstanding norms.
