Public makes it more of a deterrence for others instead of just a reaction to an individual bad actor. Hang'um high in the streets!
A few years back, I toured Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin and they showed us where the British would do public executions to scare the Irish and/or to act as a crime deterrent. They said they quickly stopped doing that when they realized people were actually coming for the show and it wasn't a deterrent at all.
I have no idea if that kind of thing would happen here or not. Kind of sad state of affairs that we might end up finding out.

I'll make a prediction. People will spend weeks getting their panties in a bunch about broadcasting it. They won't end up broadcasting it and nobody will spend much time getting their panties in a bunch about the actual execution.
