@hhlurker people won’t believe this but one of my college teammates came over from Croatia. Ridiculous player. War time. Played at red star. Was being courted by marseille. Fled with his family. In six weeks without first being able to speak English he got a high enough act score for ncaa eligibility
The “dumbest” kid in my son’s knew practically every pokemon character, strengths, hit points, all of it by heart. I checked him out. And the teachers weren’t stupid. But they were rigid. If she can’t teach him, he’s stupid.
Just to leapfrog off all the education talk, but I do know that inner city Indy schools used to offer home ec and shop classes as a requirement. Not gender specific like the old, old days. In the late 90's they were all cut because they weren't math or reading.
That wasn't the dems making those kinds of decisions on inner city education.
.
How will reparations solve this?
no one owes Somalians anything.
Minneapolis was once the bastion of sanity on the Democratic side. Now it’s the poster child for everything Murt rants about liberals.
If there is a gov't program, SOmalis are going to be flocking to it with their hands out to take advantage of it.
@co-hoosier and that may be the case. i don't know. i do know that a solid education doesn't happen in a vacuum. improving k-12 schools will do very little without improving the conditions that these families and kids live under
The math knows its harder than ever in US history to breakout of the poverty cycle. Can't run from that. We know housing and healthcare costs are crushing folks and we know modern jobs require education and skills many of our schools aren't providing. But then we also consider any relief from that a freebie. Weird stuff.
The poverty rate dropped to its lowest level ever in 25. And we have allowed in 10s of millions of illegal immigrants the last several decades who have little to no education, literally can't speak English, and they have managed to find and work jobs.
2 million-ish extra people barely tip-toeing over the poverty line doesn't really tell the story. 60% of people living in the poverty at the end of last century could expect to get out of it. Now 60% stay there.
What modern jobs require education and skills many of ours schools aren't providing? What skills and education are your referring to?@co-hoosier and that may be the case. i don't know. i do know that a solid education doesn't happen in a vacuum. improving k-12 schools will do very little without improving the conditions that these families and kids live under
