The amount of extra, unnecessary, money we've ALL spent the last 2-3 Presidential terms, because we've elected unfit leaders, is nauseating. The extra money we're spending now on gas, that we also spent for a large chunk of Biden's term... Its a direct result of incompetence by Biden and Trump. Obviously gas prices fluctuate. They ebb and flow with markets, there are refinery issues that spike them every now and then... but 5 dollar gas happens only when there are foundational mistakes made. Biden made them, Trump is making them. And they were made because those 2 humans were incapable of avoiding them, for their own reasons. None of us will ever get that unnecessary extra money spent back. Half of us were livid when it happened under Biden, but are now very understanding all of a sudden. And vice versa. We ALL get to pay the "tax". And this is just one expense. Groceries, cost of living... its all inflated right now.
How about we dump this asshole, and other leaders like him. And don't swing the pendulum all the way back to people like Biden or Harris or AOC? How about both parties take the next year or so to take stock, and put an emphasis in actual competency? Maybe take this process a little more seriously? We won't. Most of you are now selfish enough to push for, if not demand, people like Trump, Vance... AOC, Harris... and not more moderate leaders. Governors that are relatively successfully leading "purple states" come to mind. Congress people that represent "purple districts". You know, so we have a shred of a chance to foundationally fix some things going forward.
Seeing 5 dollar gas... if you can't tell, has me a little triggered, right now. If you're one that has focused most or all of your energy slamming Trump, in recent years, but have or would support people like AOC, Harris... you're the problem. On the flip side, if you are constantly raging about woke politics, liberals being communists, and you are an ardent MAGA Trump supporter, you're also the problem. Everyone deserves a vote... but I wish ALL of you would lose a huge portion of your influence in your parties.
I honestly couldn't care less what party our next President comes from. But I really, really, really hope they're more competent than what we've had the last 10 years. If I'm a betting man though, because of how awful Trump is, and will continue being, we'll swing the pendulum too far left, and we'll get some awful far left liberal, that will continue to focus on solving issues for a small fraction of our populace. And it won't work out well for most of us, and the result be some Trump like lunatic in 2032... and so on...
A lot of us think Obama and Bush were incompetent if not more temperamentally acceptable to the unwashed.
@iunorth my hope is that the Democrats nominate any of the more sensible - and currently less visible - governors that have been listed as possibilities from time to time. People like Josh Shapiro, Andy Beshear, Jared Polis, Wes Moore and Gretchen Whitmer all have good track records in their states and would more than likely put competent adults in key cabinet roles. I hope that after the midterms some of these folks start to emerge as solid choices and there is a healthy Democratic presidential primary.
I think you diagnose many of the problems with leadership correctly. I share the same frustration. Gas prices are hitting me, too.The amount of extra, unnecessary, money we've ALL spent the last 2-3 Presidential terms, because we've elected unfit leaders, is nauseating. But blaming individual voters who realistically get a choice between two candidates is nonsense. Mathematically, given the states they live in, their votes don't even matter.
More importantly, it's remarkably bad strategy for anyone who actually wants to persuade. Blaming and shaming people simply doesn't work.
@iunorth this administration and the last have been really reallly bad. And mark my words we will get jd Rubio Harris AOC Newsom.
the system in its broadest sense from media to elections is totally busted
and too many Americans are dumb
@bar-down JD/Rubio is not a bad ticket at all.
Really sharp, experienced guys who aren’t nearly as inflammatory as their boss.
I prefer Rubio, I think he has a more realistic sense of foreign policy and trade.
But a Vance presidency is a step back towards normalcy, even if Democrats pretend like it’s the end of the world (what else is new).
The prediction markets like Vance v. Newsom. The election is a long way off, though. Two and a half years is an eternity in politics. Some other Dem may emerge, and Vance may not be viable if Trump continues to fuck up, which could open the door for Rubio.
Shut up Butch, no one asked you.

sounds good in theory but it will never happen. the swamp is too entrenched on both sides
my vote will always go to whoever will fvck things up the least.....and do it in the slowest way possible
@bradstevens I did focus on individual voters... but the title implies the parties propping up of their desired candidates. And I'll double down on my direct attacks towards specific voters that spend nearly all their time tearing down their "ops", as the kids say these days, without taking really any stock in who they support, the damage they're doing. And being open to more moderate people that that largely share their views, but maybe are a little more realistic, and open to compromises and leading for larger chunks of people.
I also said everyone deserves their vote. And I urge EVERYONE to use it. I just wish the hard liners, on both sides, would have dramatically less sway and influence, than they currently do.
Shut up Butch, no one asked you.
You're seriously fucked up. Just a perpetually angry dude always picking fights. But congrats on not referring to people today (so far) as "retarded," "mongoloid" or "c*nts."
@carramrod The GOP ticket is likely doomed if there's much of any connection to Trump. Vance, and Rubio, pre Trump, were the types of people I'm more referring to. Its hard to disassociate their words and actions working with Trump now though. But Vance/Rubio, likely, wouldn't be the end of the world if that ends up being the GOP ticket. I guess I haven't thought through the timing of how it would all go down... to be fair. But if that ticket were somehow pre determined, I would worry that it would cause the dems to run a much farther left/radical ticket, as a counter to how close those 2 are to Trump. Newsome, to me, is like Vance. He's a political opportunist. And he's never had to actually lead people from both parties. I'd VERY strongly prefer someone like Shapiro, Beshear, Moore, Whitmer... on that side.
I guess I hope for an actual open primary, on both sides.... with the end result being something like Beshear/Moore vs. Kemp/Condoleeza Rice... The immediate visceral reactions by the furthest left and right people reading this, is exactly why we need candidates like them... all in my opinion, obviously.
