I think the revelation that he raped someone. That's a pretty big thing to find out about and for most it's a complete deal breaker. The irony of Dems crying about Trump destroying democracy only to blatantly disregard democracy multiple times in their own party is delicious.
So Platner should still be in the Maine Senate race?
What changed since he won the primary?
Based on the latest information, do you think he should still be running?
He claims he is innocent. There was a long list of accusations about him before this, & these things were known by the party & Dem. voters. He’s being replaced because he’s going to lose, not because he’s unfilt or an awful person. Just like Joe Biden, just like Eric Swallwell.
Yes, I think the candidate that Dem voters put on the ticket should stay there.
He's being replaced because he was going to lose? LOL. A NYT/Siena poll had him ahead of Collins just two weeks ago.
A credible allegation of rape is a game-changer. At least it should be.
What distinguishes an allegation from credible and non-credible other than the allegations political utility in your eyes?
I'm guessing Blasey Ford and Jean Carroll are credible. But the allegations against Platner up until this most recent one (coincidentally around the time he was getting passed in the polls) were not. The Swalwell allegations were of course not credible until it became apparent that Dems might get locked out of the Governorship run off.
Political utility? Stop with that BS. I said here a month ago that he wasn't cut out for Congress. And stop with the bullshit about "getting passed in the polls." After the first round of allegations, he still won the primary in a landslide. In fact, he received more primary votes than any other Democratic US Senate candidate in Maine history. He was up on Collins in polling less than two weeks ago, and gaining among independents. Pubs in Maine constitute 30% of the electorate. He was going to beat the old lady.
He's being replaced because he was just accused of rape.
He was not going to beat Collins if he stayed in the race. You're so FOS it's coming out your ears.
I know you don't believe being involved in politics is a reason to justify disregarding sexual assault claims, but that's how what you wrote reads.
What?! If that's how you read it, that's on you, not me.
First, the other woman - - the one who worked in Republican politics - - did not accuse Platner of sexual assault. You've now acknowledged that. Next, if that became a court case, there's little doubt that the defense attorney would highlight the woman's GOP political involvement in challenging her credibility. The prosecution would need to buttress her credibility despite the possible bias. That's how it works.
No sexual assault claim should be disregarded. They all must be taken seriously.

Bullshit. He wasn't getting "passed in the polls" just prior to the rape allegation.

All of this "revelation" talk is a misnomer. He was accused of rape by another woman and it was downplayed as partisan because she was a republican. Multiple accusers went to the NYT and then were marginalized in the piece. Now the author of the NYT article is admitting that she may have been blinded by political charisma or something to that effect. All the while, Sanders, Warren, Kahn, etc... were out there campaigning with him. Now suddenly they're shocked by the revelation. The usual suspects in media are trying to say they had their doubts, but couldn't really prove anything.
The guy has been a shitbird from day 1, but the party was willing to overlook it and push forward. Not much difference with Paxton in Texas, mechanically, but Paxton is a little less of a shitbird. It's the story of 2 party politics during my lifetime.
No, he wasn't accused of rape by the other woman, and she was more than just a Republican. She worked in Republican politics.
Works in R politics, not credible
Crazy cat lady paid off by Dems, credible
you’re killing me!!!!!!🤣
I have no idea who the "crazy cat lady" is.
Once again, the prior woman didn't accuse Platner of rape. And I didn't say she wasn't credible, but her background is something to consider in that regard. If that ever went to court, that's what the judge would say in jury instructions.
You're struggling.

I’m struggling? lol. You’re twisting yourself in knots trying to convince anyone that this guys is being hung out to dry because they just found out he’s a scoundrel. They were fine when he was leading in the polls, now that the real, credible rape allegation by a Dem has hurt his polling he’s out! 🤣🤣🤣
Unless I am missing something, he was first accused of sending racy text messages. That isn't rape. I recall a girlfriend claimed physical intimidation, also not rape. Not good,of course.
Now there are clear allegations of rape, true MAGA-like behavior that nobody except Trump supporters would ever ignore.

The nazi tattoo was a known thing before the primary though.
At the end of the day, he was a bad candidate, and he is no longer in the running. The state of Maine will be better off from this one way or the other.

Unlike you, I admitted to being wrong about something and owned it.

Perhaps most relevantly, he dropped out.

Suprisngly good read.
Those two consultants are a couple of commies who helped elect Summer Lee. They both worked for Bernie. It's little wonder they got buy in from him and Warren.
This Politico article lays out the process of how they selected him.
