The irony of Dems crying about Trump destroying democracy only to blatantly disregard democracy multiple times in their own party is delicious.

That's an absurd false equivalence.

Is the Dem party a divided mess?  Do they frequently eat their own?  Do they need to clean their own house?  Of course.  But it's a far cry from the breadth and magnitude of the harm Trump has inflicted on the country.

A second bill of particulars: Donald Trump and the assault on American democracy - Bench & Bar of Minnesota

lol at that article - it should be called “Trump’s a Meany” but there is little if any quantifiable effects listed that go beyond his term.

Nothing Trump has done or will do is anywhere near the permanent harm done by the refusal of Dems to enforce immigration policy therefore remaking the country into a country full of voters that will forever vote themselves more welfare.  Not to mention the public safety, onslaught of new communities that are implementing their own laws in contradiction of our own, & voters willing to put socialists in office.  You must think the replacement of western cultural & capitalism is ok, good for you I guess…

Edit:the equivalence is no comparison to Trump, it is the fact that multiple times now Dems have discarded their own elections(democratic process) & replaced them with handpicked candidates (non-democratic process).  Hope that simplifies it for you…

So Platner should still be in the Maine Senate race?

What changed since he won the primary?

He didn't get elected.

You can't say the same for Trump. who was elected and by the entire country (wasn't just running in 1 state).

The difference between dems and pubs is our bad candidates can't win while your bad candidates do.

illegal immigrants don't even vote.  Yet dead Trumpers somehow manage to vote.  Do you not have issue with that?

There is no legitimate defense to the blatant corruption spearheaded by Trump.  But you can continue to make yourself look like an idiot by trying to yabbut and defend

I think the revelation that he raped someone. That's a pretty big thing to find out about and for most it's a complete deal breaker.

Based on the latest information, do you think he should still be running?

He claims he is innocent.  There was a long list of accusations about him before this, & these things were known by the party & Dem. voters.  He’s being replaced because he’s going to lose, not because he’s unfilt or an awful person.  Just like Joe Biden, just like Eric Swallwell.

Yes, I think the candidate that Dem voters put on the ticket should stay there.

He's being replaced because he was going to lose?  LOL.  A NYT/Siena poll had him ahead of Collins just two weeks ago.

A credible allegation of rape is a game-changer.  At least it should be.

A game changer in the election outcome, which is why, not some newfound morality.  He’s been a known dirtbag since he entered the scene which was fine by Dem voters & leadership until the polling changed…

All of this "revelation" talk is a misnomer.  He was accused of rape by another woman and it was downplayed as partisan because she was a republican.  Multiple accusers went to the NYT and then were marginalized in the piece.  Now the author of the NYT article is admitting that she may have been blinded by political charisma or something to that effect.  All the while, Sanders, Warren, Kahn, etc... were out there campaigning with him.  Now suddenly they're shocked by the revelation.  The usual suspects in media are trying to say they had their doubts, but couldn't really prove anything.

The guy has been a shitbird from day 1, but the party was willing to overlook it and push forward.  Not much difference with Paxton in Texas, mechanically, but Paxton is a little less of a shitbird.  It's the story of 2 party politics during my lifetime.

What distinguishes an allegation from credible and non-credible other than the allegations political utility in your eyes?

I'm guessing Blasey Ford and Jean Carroll are credible. But the allegations against Platner up until this most recent one (coincidentally around the time he was getting passed in the polls) were not. The Swalwell allegations were of course not credible until it became apparent that Dems might get locked out of the Governorship run off.

Illegal immigrants affect census info, changing the allocation of congressional seats & electoral votes.  That is a quantifiable, long term effect that impacts every federal legislative vote that happens.  Pretty profound effect, no?  What is an example from the article you linked of similar quantifiable impact long term?

Stay tuned for even more incoming hypocrisy from Dems.  They’re likely to nominate another woman abuser who has admitted to the same crimes they threw a fit about & indicted Trump for - mortgage fraud.  You can’t make this up!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

The polling changed because....

I know you can figure it out.

dem voters don't accept scumbags like MAGA morons do.

Now that wasn't that difficult.

Btw, a credible allegation of sexual assault should have been a game changer too but MAGA morons are as immoral as they come.

Political utility? Stop with that BS.  I said here a month ago that he wasn't cut out for Congress. And stop with the bullshit about "getting passed in the polls." After the first round of allegations, he still won the primary in a landslide.  In fact, he received more primary votes than any other Democratic US Senate candidate in Maine history.  He was up on Collins in polling less than two weeks ago, and gaining among independents.  Pubs in Maine constitute 30% of the electorate.  He was going to beat the old lady.

He's being replaced because he was just accused of rape.

I have no idea who the "crazy cat lady" is.

Once again, the prior woman didn't accuse Platner of rape.  And I didn't say she wasn't credible, but her background is something to consider in that regard. If that  ever went to court, that's what the judge would say in jury instructions.

You're struggling.

You're right. I thought another woman had alleged being sexually assaulted, but it was the same woman. Racicot talked about unsettling behavior with the NYT and wouldn't go further with it on the record because she didn't want to be identified as a rape victim.  Then when the NYT downplayed all the accusations from her and the others while focusing on the political operative angle, she decided to go into more detail with the other news outlet.

I know you don't believe being involved in politics is a reason to justify disregarding sexual assault claims, but that's how what you wrote reads.

We're so messed up with politics that even the rape victim wasn't sure if she should come forward because of shared political views.

“My part of the story was just a read-over,” Racicot said in an interview. “And the story was Lyndsey, and the accusations of her being politically motivated.”

Racicot said she was torn over coming forward in part because she agrees with Platner politically.

“One of the reasons I didn’t come forward sooner was, the huge moral conflict that I had between supporting his politics, but not supporting him as a person,” she said. “I just want the truth out there. I just want people to have a whole scope of who he is as a person.”
