@larsiu don’t tell SamIAm but on my iphone the Adguard App was simple to install and set and works like magic.
So using dns.adguard.com is basically routing all internet requests from my phone through their server? And it filters any garbage coming back?
Doesn’t that slow response time?Isn’t that making adguard like big brother?
What dns is default on an iphone.
Creepy shit.
Mark can explain the tech stuff better than me, but every single web page you visit requires a DNS resolution first, so your device is already contacting a DNS server in order to get the actual address of the content you want. Manually overriding it just changes which DNS server gets used. As long as that server is running tip-top, it shouldn't hurt your performance at all.
Thanks. I didn’t even know DNS yesterday…. My (old) iPhone performance actually seems a bit faster with the Adguard app. The adguard website seems to recommend the app over the manual dns.adguard in part because the dns install apparently can leave a blank ghost where the ads were. I’m getting a full screen.
One catch, though. On YouTube I get a black screen and have to hit the reload icon. Works instantly though. I think that’s because adguard is sending the ad call to a dummy address which comes up black (?).
Big thanks to you @unclemark for guiding me to adguard! Spooky reading about those dns calls being unencrypted for most IPSes.
Looks great. If I could get my phone to turn back on. Fucking UncleMark.Easiest? Just use the app…
