It was probably wrong on me to categorize the Utah family as being gun nuts, given the ancient bolt-action rifle used. I don't know if the shooter had access to an AR15 or not. He apparently chose to use the rifle under the impression that it was so old that it would not have a registered serial number in any database, and so would have been really hard to trace to his grandfather and father.

I went to a buddy's ranch one time up on the Red River. He said "You want to shoot some gophers? they're tearing up our yard."
Uses the key on his key chain to unlock the padlock and another key for the deadbolt and opens up this door to an armory with a couple dozen firearms. AR's, hunting rifles, shotguns everything.
I was shocked as he had never mentioned firearms in the few years I'd known him. Carried a P365 with him on rare occasions but that was about it.

Pelosi was hammered in the head by a black lives matter, LGBT nutcase. Too many Republicans reveled in the incident as a piece of comedy. And admittedly, the video of Paul Pelosi coming to the door in his underwear holding hands with a guy at 1 AM is pretty funny. But the reveling wasn't right because he was seriously injured.
Kirk was assassinated, in a public way that was anything but funny. There is no comparison.
