  1. Cool.  I think you are looking short term while I and @snarlcakes are looking long term.  Yeah, maybe tariffs increase costs (so far data shows they haven't), but if they do, then long term, offsets from lower taxes (or tax certainty), lower energy cost, lower regulatory cost, lower interest rates, and reduced govt spending ( 🙄 ), will negate the tariff effect.

All that long term thinking is going to work out great for the GOP in the midterms!

Guess we'll see.  Still over a year away.  Personally, I don't care much for the GOP.  And I definitely don't care for the dems, specifically their policies.  Right now, I don't like much of anyone except Massie.

Well, I just showed you Trump's first term: lower energy, lower taxes, deregulation, low interest rates (until Powell screwed up 4Q 2018), and increased tariffs still led to tremendous wage growth for the middle class.  Too bad they didn't cut spending.

Yes they are.  And policies will be better for more people IF he tackles SS and Medicare.  They are killing the government and economic growth.

Differentiate Clinton's stance there from current Republicans.

We rounded up Hyndai's workers they brought in to help get the plant up and running, which would bring jobs to Americans longterm.

Idiots

He's not purposefully cruel, for one.

It was a different time. Illegal immigration in the 80s came largely from young Mexican males looking for work. Today, it's largely Central American families hoping to escape the drugs and gangs and violence.

I've never denied the southern border problem. I have had problems with Trump's approach to dealing with it. And yeah, Biden botched it when he had his shot.

All in all, it's a sad situation we find ourselves in, emboldening a madman while terrorizing otherwise decent, hard working people. Kicking the can has consequences.

(1) I can't argue your feelings about cruelty; (2) Do you have proof for your claim about it's "largely" CA families? (3) If it is "largely CA families" and not Mexican males looking for work, doesn't that undercut the arguments that these people are net positives to the economy or that deporting them will drive up prices for agricultural products? (4) The problem today is much worse than when Clinton made the same arguments that Democrats now reject--in his day the estimated # of illegals was under 6 million, current estimated number closer to 14 million:

https://www.pewresearch.org/race-and-ethnicity/2025/08/21/u-s-unauthorized-immigrant-population-reached-a-record-14-million-in-2023/

Re Biden, he didn't just botch it--he intentionally made it worse.  The Democratic Party holds a number of people who believe in open borders and many more who don't think 14 million illegal aliens is a problem and want to stymie attempts to enforce immigration law through deportations:

The cruelty queers it for me. I can't get past it. So I can't reasonably address the other points you make. They don't matter to me. They don't justify the cruelty.
