Fourth, use of the bases is not all Trump asked for.First point of pushback: predictability is pretty damn important. She puts it scare quotes as if it's a throwaway concern and then questions Macron calling it a virtue.Interesting read.
Second point of pushback: after our misadventure in Iraq, we lost a ton of credibility on this type of action. Actions have consequences, etc. etc.
Third point of pushback: Trump didn't consult them. I don't blame them for saying, hold your horses, we need to think about this with our populace. Part of democracy and all. In other words, going it alone is a tradeoff.

To me the basic problem here is that Trump isn’t an honest interlocutor. Most of this should be discussed on diplomatic channels behind closed doors, but Trump dumps it on truth social.
If he were honest with our allies, he would say, listen, I had to act because we had a chance to wipe their leadership out. Now let’s talk…
Also, he’s constantly threatening our allies as if they aren’t really allies. WTF? That’s not how an ally operates. America first is a domestic slogan. It’s not something you Shove in the face of your International allies.
Trump’s too simple-minded for the job he conned off of conservatives.
