Second point of pushback: after our misadventure in Iraq, we lost a ton of credibility on this type of action. Actions have consequences, etc. etc.
Third point of pushback: Trump didn't consult them. I don't blame them for saying, hold your horses, we need to think about this with our populace. Part of democracy and all. In other words, going it alone is a tradeoff.
