If he actually follows through with this (will the Supremes allow it?), the the shining city upon a hill will have gone dark.
America no longer believes in mutual defense pacts in favor of imperialism.
Excellent news. The Danes should gift it to the U.S. for all the money we have spent protecting Europe, but European's are like spoiled trust fund kids. Print some dirty fiat dollars and send all 7 Danes back home.
He claims “national emergency” authority for all his tariffs. How obtaining Greenland is a national emergency is a mystery.

3-D chess. He knows he will need to actually be at war when he tries to cancel the 2028 elections, so he's setting the stage.
I don’t like the pressure campaign on Denmark who has been a strong and worthwhile ally compared to most Euro’s.
But I think we forget that this is what territorial expansion looks like. Everything that is now the United States and it’s territories was purchased and/ or fought for in blood.
It would be cool to have Greenland, maybe as a territory to start; we don’t need two more Democratic senators.
I cringe at the chicken littles who seem to have a problem with the very idea that America even would want to or ought to expand its territory. They are American defeatists content to fall into the malaise that animates the decline of Europe since they have relinquished their colonies.
If you’re not growing, you are dying is unfailingly true.
In terms of land mass? Very dubious proposition.I don’t like the pressure campaign on Denmark who has been a strong and worthwhile ally compared to most Euro’s.

I don’t understand your point re: free markets.
It’s destiny Brad. White man’s gotta rule the world.
I think free markets create the possibility of economic growth without land acquisition. In terms of land mass? Very dubious proposition.I don’t like the pressure campaign on Denmark who has been a strong and worthwhile ally compared to most Euro’s.

Re land acquisition, there are a lot of nations/peoples who existed within approximately the same land area for a thousand or two years without dying.

Free markets are deflationary. We've never had free markets.
@bradstevens I certainly wouldn’t argue that territorial expansion is a necessity for economic growth.
But your comment does speak to my larger point. Enough thinking of the U.S. as simply an “economic zone” we all happen to share together. It’s soulless and disheartening.
Where’s the national project? The Louisiana Purchase and subsequent settlers? The railroad? The space program?
It’s time for a new frontier, which is Greenland.
