@univee2 the both gerrymander, as do TX and FL, has been football schools

I would gladly encourage apportioning House seats by percentage. If a state has 10 seats and one side gets 56% and the other 44, we have a 6-4 split. No more gerrymandering. If a third party gets 10% in that case, they get a seat.

If that doesn't excite, we develop a program that doesn't look at anything other than population. It randomly chooses a starting spot and draws compact districts of equal size. Done  it may be team orange does better in some states, team purple in others. But it is random, them's the breaks. Next census it probably will start at a different spot and will have different lines.

The Supreme Court will soon zap the VRA so this idea should become legal.

Or sortition, grab 9 random people and they draw the lines with nothing but census counts of pop, no breakdowns. Average Americans aren't going to know how to pack and crack.

@univee2 I'll give liberals credit, they play to win.  According to Grok:

In the 2024 Illinois US House of Representatives election (for all 17 seats), Democrats received a total of **2,829,169 popular votes** (52.78%), while Republicans received **2,517,389 popular votes** (46.97%). Democrats won 14 seats, and Republicans won 3 seats.

@unclemark I can't believe you support a political party that lacks principles.  Considering you're a great man of in integrity😁

@snarlcakes  stop pretending only D states gerrymander, R states do too. It should be illegal, but there are too many people who see nothing wrong with it. But I give you the same challenge I have to Stoll, name the last D state to gerrymander 4 years after they set the Congressional districts for the decade? Go ahead, name them. I am damn sure you have a list, share it.

I agree they both gerrymander.  I was pointing out mark and hickory are full of poo poo on their principled arguments (For the record I know they're trolling, which I can appreciate 😁). I don't care if they change the districts every 5 years, Marv. Kudos to Braun for taking the initiative.

@snarlcakes  don't you largely oppose government spending to benefit citizens? But you support it to benefit a political party? Should government just hand money to a party? We have established it is ok to call a special session. Let's say that costs $10,000. Is it ok to just write a check for $10, 000 to a party? To a PAC? To a church? What makes it different? The money is being spent specifically to promote a party.

The Indiana budget is 50 billion.  I'm not going to care too much about 10 grand.  In this case it's money well spent if they're able to get another House seat.  Also, the money is benefiting Indiana citizens.  You just don't like the citizens it's benefiting.

Wow.  The next time the Dem party is in power (which will be sooner than you think), the Republicans won't have anything left to cry about, unless, of course, they are hypocrites.

And we know that's not the case.

When does the special session start?

Early December. By moving it there they can count the days as 2026 days and not pay extra. Obviously someone here is a Braun lackey, so the truth in my argument and decided to move the special session.
