@bar-down I appreciate where you're coming from, but two things:
1. We can't ignore that the level of crazy is influenced by where we ourselves sit on the spectrum. Loony leftist policy will never seem quite as loony to me as it will to you. So we won't ever judge them quite the same, even if we agree they are loony.
2. Your distinction only makes sense if the Republicans can keep their awfulness confined to their private lives, and I've seen no evidence they have that sort of self-restraint. Take the Callais plaintiffs, who actually won, and got a 5-1 map in Louisiana, and are now pressing their lawsuit further, because even having one black majority district in a state that is 1/3 black (so 2 districts actually would have made sense) is an offense to them. Or go all the way back to Wisconsin's attempts to rewrite the Constitution to enshrine single-party rule before the Dems had a chance to fight back at the ballot box. Too many Republicans really do seem to want to make dissent to their rule impossible if not illegal. In my opinion, that should scare you at least as much as trans athletes using the wrong litter box in kindergarten, if not more.
