Nope. We're all people. You see an avatar, but that's a real person behind there, typing those words, thinking those thoughts, feeling those feelings. None of that disappears because we are typing things on a keyboard and reading on a screen. We are all avatars on an internet forum, and the internet is full of insults and criticisms. We need to grow thicker skin if that bothers us.
And make no mistake: insults bother everyone. I find those who can't admit that are generally not the ones with "thick skins," but either harbor deep insecurities about being perceived as caring or completely lacking in self-awareness. Insults and personal swipes bothered McM and he knew it and he had a long memory about those things. Again, I think that's true for most everyone.

I feel like by selecting those two sentences, you purposefully missed the point of my post.
MCM666 and I had a conversation. He agreed that a break was needed. I hope he gets his anger under control. While he was a good poster, he took some things too far. We left it at that and if he would like to return, we can re-evaluate.
Thank you for reading Hoosier Huddle
Not purposefully, but probably stupidly. I just see the phrasing you used in those two sentences as undercutting your overall point for some. A lot of people hide behind that rationale, so I was just using your sentences as a jumping off point to say something I wanted to say.Nope. We're all people. Sorry, but you're wrong, IMHO. If you think the majority of posters on here are anything other than personas, then maybe you need to take a step back and take a break as well. Of course, I mean this advice for your avatar, and not for you. I don't know anything about you.Nope. We're all people. .
Once again, that’s very Christian of you to say.
You obviously need to read a Bible. Jesus referred to many unbelievers as "swine". Look up the Parable of the sheep and the goats.
So that whole thing about love thy neighbor as yourself is only applied when it fits the narrative.
Seems right.
He will be forgiven if he asks the lord for it. Get over your obsession with his standing with god, everyone sins.
Except sinning while accusing others of being atheist heathens shows a severe lack of self awareness

Most likely I was unclear, anyway. My point was actually like yours, that there are human beings behind the avatars, but I was pointing out that while many posters disagree with, argue with, fight with, criticize the other poster, a small handful made it a point to attack the person behind the poster. I'm happy if those types leave and don't come back.

Except for the “we are all people” comment, I pretty much disagree with all of this. First of all, while I consider pretty much everyone here a friend, and would enjoy a beer with anybody, I also understand the scope of that friendship is limited to what we discuss here. While I occasionally post experiences or happenings in my life, there is not a lot about me personally that comes through.
Insults, put downs, or other personal comments really don’t bother me. In fact, quite the opposite. That material thrown my way tells me that I am over the target and the name-caller has no defense. Now if my spouse, law partners, or personal friends would say such things, different story. I have enough self- respect and confidence to not take personal comments from posters here very seriously. But that doesn’t mean I disregard substantive material from anybody who post here regardless of the signal to noise ratio.

This verse, then, is not about the dogs. It is about the fool who would treat what is holy as worthless. Jesus is not saying, “Figure out who the hostile, unworthy people are and don’t preach to them.” Instead, he is saying, “Don’t take what is holy and precious and treat it as worthless.” The verse is not about judging other people’s values; the verse is about getting our own values straight.
Shooter is fat, ugly, and a loser.
Sounds like a personal attack. And I am none of those.
Loser? Today's good news is that I got a paper accepted in "Nature", one of the the highest impact scientific journals on Earth. Ugly? i suppose that's a matter of opinion. Fat? Maybe 130 pounds ago, but not any more. Shirts 4X -> 3X -> 2X -> 1XL-Big -> XL-slim cut. Aiming for a L, but shoulders may be too broad to get there. Goodwill got 25 of my old too big shirts this weekend. I rode my bike 15 miles this morning, working off the minor 3 lb backslide from Thanksgiving pies. 2026 should see me reach my "ideal" BMI chart weight.
As to the hierarchy of a-holes, I could imagine myself peaceably sharing a beer and talking IU sports or maybe even politics with Stoll, Favra, maybe even Danc. But no way in hell would I ever share space with McMurt. At least, unarmed.
"You can't make someone listen to reason if they aren't willing to think"-- Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
Can't blame him. The "Water Cooler" is defiled with anti-American, leftist, atheist, filth.
I am all of those. Don't forget fat!
Not to mention a lover of dirty dirty fiat currency and great grandson of Paul Warburg.
Coming from a guy who doesn't understand fifth-grade social studies, I couldn't care less
I agree that the relationships here are limited. Most are. But they are still relationships, as you note.Nope. We're all people. As for how much of you personally comes through, I think that's short sighted--you've been posting here for decades, expressing your thoughts on things from parenting to politics to your past. I'd wager some people here have taken in as much information about you, and can infer a lot from your posting style, habits, and particular positions (and changes in position) as some of the people in your second or third ring of real-life friends.
If it were true that insults didn't bother you at all, you wouldn't even respond to them. But you do. That's a tell that they bother you. They might not keep you up at night, or ruin your dinner, or bleed into your life outside of here. But your time on here is real--even if different than your in person, non internet experience.

Nature is woke tripe. Best used as toilet paper. Perfect place to publish your garbage.
