@unclemark Well define good. I don’t mean good, good. Just not an absolutely we know it’s going to be a blowout good. I like the idea of playing some local teams. If James Madison wasn’t so good, I’d love to play them sometimes.  Something to add interest.

@bar-down Well that one was a little cool because Trayce’s brother was playing and it was good to see him play well. But that was just happenstance.

@snarlcakes I’ll agree once they have 24 teams in the playoffs. Which I hate, but it’s coming. Right now you lose 3 games and you are likely out. Once it’s 24, that won’t be the case.

We're likely out if we lose 2 games.

Depends on when, how, and to whom.

My take is that many seem to be missing the point of these out of conference games in Cignetti’s scheme of things…-

They’re nothing more than an extension of Fall Camp. A series of controlled scrimmages that give us a chance to work out the kinks and fine tune things so we’re ready for the games that matter…

Few seem to recall that we didn’t look like the eventual National Champion against Old Dominion or Kennesaw State last fall, we honed our game and got our QB on track and up to speed against an FCS team (Indiana State) which got us where we needed to be to be able to completely dismantle Illinois in the Big Ten opener and eventually become a TEAM for the ages…

That out of conference schedule (of Old Dominion, Kennesaw State, and Indiana State) formed the foundation upon which an unforgettable Championship was built…

Why anyone would want to deviate from a Proven formula that just helped us go 16-0 and reach that National Championship is difficult for me to grasp…

The idea that some fan has a better concept of how best to schedule than Cignetti does for his own teams development is so foolishy arrogant in the extreme that it’s hard to grasp and this thought that the football program owes the fans something, the same fans that would desert them in a heartbeat if a few things didn’t go right in some key games is extraordinarily ludicrous, in my opinion…

The only philosophy that should be followed in regards to scheduling is this: what does the coach believe best benefits and develops the TEAM…, full stop… Anything else is complete nonsense and a recipe for failure…

So both teams agreed to play a ten minute 4th yesterday. I never knew that was allowed. Wild

@bar-down

Evidently if both Head Coaches and the Head Ref agree it can be done legally…

Supposedly, it’s been done 4 times this season and several more times prior…

@bar-down Yeah, I almost skipped going. May rain, going to be a blowout, good games on tv. I went but left at half. Mainly had people I wanted to tailgate with. I know why we do it and but I really wish we had one competitive game early. Not too competitive, but not one we should win by 50.

I initially thought WKU could be a bit of a fight, but they got beaten to a pulp by UGA after being trounced by Nevada. I generally agree with you, but much of this schedule was created when a bowl seemed more like a dream than reality.

Howard and North Texas were scheduled in August and September of 2025. We’re doing it on purpose.

And what teams were available only a year out? Most P4 schools have their schedules set years in advance from what I've read.

@jdb non-con power matchups are set years in advance. The Ohio State/ Texas, the Notre Dame/ Georgia.

You can pick up crap on the side of the road any time you want.
